OnePlus TV is the next big thing from the Never Settle brand, and India will be the first market to receive it. OnePlus has been selectively putting out teasers for its first-ever TV, and after revealing its September release date and logo, the company has now let slip the first technical details on its official India Twitter handle. The OnePlus TV will feature a 55-inch QLED panel. Or at least one variant will.

Previously there have been rumors that OnePlus TV will come in four different sizes i.e. 43-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch, and 75-inch. While they have confirmed the panel-type for the 55-inch model, it is still possible that they launch their TV in more than one size.

What’s really worth taking a note in this tweet is the announcement of QLED display. Though the QLED sounds like OLED, both aren’t really close.

A couple of years ago Samsung coined this QLED term to market their TVs. The South Korean giant uses quantum-dot technology in these QLED screens. Unlike OLED’s where each pixel emits its own light, QLED’s still dependent on backlighting systems. Where QLED screens have an advantage over LED screens is the embedded quantum dot film. What is Quantum Dot? Well, these are microscopic molecules when they get touched by the light they emit their own, differently colored light.

Earlier in an interview, Pete Lau suggested that the OnePlus TV operating system will be based on Google’s Android TV platform however they will be a custom “improved” UI layer on top. These TVs will be the first step OnePlus takes towards Smart homes.
