TL; DR
- All iPhone 17 models, including Pro variants, support up to 40W wired fast charging via Apple’s new Dynamic Power Adapter, hitting 50% in around 20 minutes.
- The ultra-thin iPhone Air is capped at 20W wired charging.
- eSIM-only iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max gain up to 5% larger batteries by removing SIM trays.
Apple today unveiled the iPhone 17 lineup at its “Awe Dropping” event, where they showcased all the new updates on the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, while also introducing the new ultra-thin iPhone Air. All the iPhone 17 models bring faster charging and better battery efficiency, enabling them to charge faster than ever and also last longer.

Leading the updates is support for up to 40W wired charging across the iPhone 17 series when paired with the new Dynamic Power Adapter. Priced at $39, this adapter pushes up to 60W but optimizes output to let iPhone 17 models hit 50% charge in about 20 minutes.

That’s a clear improvement over the iPhone 16 series, which maxed out near 35W for the Pro models and 20W for the base models.
The iPhone 17 Air, however, takes a different approach. With its ultra-thin 5.64 mm body, Apple limited both its wired and wireless charging to 20W. However, since the battery is much smaller, it can still go from 0 to 50% in under 30 minutes.
And if you’re wondering, the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max all still support 25W MagSafe wireless charging.

Bigger Batteries in eSIM Pro Models

Apple is also leveraging its push toward eSIM technology to boost battery sizes in certain markets. The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max eSIM-only versions gain extra capacity by repurposing the space once used for SIM trays.
- iPhone 17 Pro eSIM: 4,252 mAh (vs. 3,988 mAh in SIM models)
- iPhone 17 Pro Max eSIM: 5,088 mAh (vs. 4,823 mAh in SIM models)
That’s roughly 5% more battery capacity, with Apple rating the Pro Max for up to 37 hours of video playback. Physical SIM options remain in markets like China and India where eSIM adoption is still low.
