Amazon Echo smart speakers users in India can now use them control internet enabled smart home devices with their voice. Yes, that’s right, now you hail Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa to control your Smart cameras, ACs, TVs and set-top boxes, smart room lamp, or the connected geyser without stepping out of your bed or couch.

This new Alexa super-power will work on Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Spot. As per the company, Alexa can now also stream live feeds from compatable cameras on the Echo Spot display. Moreover, Alexa is now also working well with Smart Voice Remotes or IR Blasters like OakRemote from Oakter and Silvan Sirus. If you don’t know, such IR blaster based smart remotes replicate the infrared codes of your regular device remotes to work as a universal remote feature.

These smart remotes replicate the infrared codes of conventional remotes and enable customers to voice control existing devices like ACs, TVs, and set-top-boxes. Most of these smart remotes generally come pre-configured for home devices like TVs, set-top boxes, home entertainment systems, air-conditioners etc. However, with Alexa voice control, it becomes much easier. With Alexa on-board all you have to do is Just say “Alexa, set AC temperature to 24 degrees” or “Alexa, change the channel to Colors on the TV”.

Alexa Routines have been enabled for Indian market where it allows customers to set a number of customizable actions using a single voice command using Alexa app.

Puneesh Kumar, Country Manager for Alexa Experience & Devices, Amazon India said:

With the introduction of Alexa and hands-free voice in the home, we think customers are seeing now- more than ever- that Smart Home isn’t as complicated as many people once thought. We still consider ourselves at Day 1 with Alexa and the Smart Home—but we’re excited by the early response from Smart Home device manufacturers and happy to offer customers with more Smart Home devices that work with Alexa.
