There was a lot of excitement and anticipation when it was revealed that Google might be working on a Pixel Fold smartphone, but soon the rumors got strong that the device has been canceled by Google even before it could be announced.

Now some new evidence has popped up, which gives a strong hint that Google is still working on its foldable Pixel smartphone. This is because Google has released the 2nd beta version of Android 12L, which is designed for larger-screened smartphones.

Android 12L brings quite a few new UI tweaks to the OS and 9to5Google has spotted that this new beta includes new animations that detail the setup of a foldable phone. This includes network setup and SIM insertion.

There’s a short video which shows two kinds of animations- one with foldable closed and another when it is opened. The Foldable phone is neither tall nor narrow but has a wider design as compared to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The locations of any ports or buttons can’t be seen in the video. The only thing which can be seen is the placement of the volume rocker which is at the lower half of the right side of the phone. The latest reports also state that the Pixel Fold will have the same aspect ratio as Samsung’s Fold 3 which is 22:5:18 when unfolded.

Google Pixel Fold was spotted on Geekbench last week with the codename Pipit. The device had an octa-core processor featuring 2 performance cores at 2.8GHz, 2 cores at 2.25GHz, and 4 cores at 1.8GHz.

It got a Geekbench 4 score of 4811 points for single-core and 11,349 points for multi-core. Earlier too Google was said to be working on a foldable smartphone codenamed Pipit which was spotted in Google Camera APK. This indicates it might have a 12.2MP IMX363 camera sensor, unlike the newer GN1 sensors.

Google has reportedly placed an order for foldable OLED panels of around 7.6-inch with Samsung Display and this is a huge indication of Foldable Pixel Smartphone in the works. This is almost the same size as the main screen on Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

A code in Android 12 preview confirms that the smartphone will use the same modem as the Pixel 6 series which means Tensor chipset. It is expected to run Android 12 or whichever will be the recent version of the OS at the time of its launch.
