Apple Intelligence

Apple’s AI aka Apple Intelligence is based on five pillars- Powerful, Intuitive, Personal, Integrated, and Private. Now, these five pillars themselves indicate that Apple Intelligence will focus on ChatGPT, Siri, Privacy features, and more.

Apple has rolled out new AI-powered Writing Tools that can not only summarize content but also rewrite text across app devices. Image generating feature is also being rolled out to apps like Messages, Keynote, Freeform, and Pages. The users will be able to create artistic images in various styles using the tool. On-device intelligence using the chipset of Apple devices and Private Cloud Compute has also been made a part of Apple Intelligence. Let us talk about the capabilities of Apple Intelligence in detail.

Apple Intelligence now powers Siri

Siri is getting a major AI overhaul. The base of this capability is contextual understanding. Siri can now understand natural language and vaguely spoken sentences or words to find meaning behind them. Apple has made communication with Siri even more natural.

Siri will now be integrated with various Apple apps which will allow it to take action within apps via verbal prompts. For example, you can ask Siri to open a photo and brighten it by saying “Make it glow”. It has onscreen awareness, so keeps a check on what’s happening on your screen.

Siri will be more astute as it will be able to gett things done more smartly. In a demo, Siri was asked when someone’s mom’s flight would land and it cross-checked the flight information from an email to give a correct answer.

To type to Siri, all you have to do is tap the bottom of your iPhone or iPad screen without speaking anything out loud. Siri also has expansive product knowledge and can guide you step by step when you need help with iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Siri has received a new design and new capabilities which make it accessible across iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The all-new design is deeply integrated into the system with an elegant, glowing light wrapping around the edges of the screen.

In-app Apple Intelligence Features

Apple has rolled out new in-app capabilities with Apple Intelligence to make the user experience even more seamless.

  • A clean-up tool has been added to the Photos app that has the power to remove unwanted objects in the background of the photo without altering the subject. It is similar to Magic Eraser on Pixel devices.
  • The memories feature in the Photos app has been made better by Apple AI. It will now be able to pick the best photos and videos based on description and craft a storyline.
  • Writing Tool Proofread will check for grammar, word choice, sentence structure, punctuation, and more in drafted emails.
  • Summarise will bring out the main points from long emails saving the time spent in reading it. Smart Replies will help you reply back within seconds.
  • Mail app has also been made smarter. It now comes with various Writing tools to rewrite so users can rephrase their messages in a tone of their choice like engaging, friendly, professional, formal, and more. You can write your text in different styles using manual prompts too. Priority Messages elevates time-sensitive messages to the top of your inbox so that you never miss a deadline, invitation, event, or occasion.
  • The messages app is also getting AI features. Users will now be able to make custom emojis, called Genmojis by just typing a prompt in the Messages app. AI will create various versions of the described emoji for you to choose from.
  • Priority Notifications now occur at the top of the stack so you don’t miss them while Reduce Interruptions is an all-new Focus that helps understand the content of your notifications and shows the ones that need your attention.

ChatGPT is Now Integrated with Apple Intelligence

Apple has expanded its AI to third-party apps as well. This begins with ChatGPT integration of Apple Intelligence. Free users of OpenAI’s ChatGPT will be able to use the tool without needing to log in or without information leaving the device. Those who are paid users will be able to connect their accounts to the platform. ChatGPT will be usable across Apple devices.

ChatGPT will be integrated within Siri along with systemwide Writing Tools across Apple’s platforms. It will power documents as well as the image processing capabilities of the app’s tools. GPT AI models will provide multimodal LLM capabilities for most AI features that have been announced.
