Yesterday, Apple announced the iPhone 15 Series which includes the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max. If you are someone who is aiming for a Pro Model of iPhone 15, then you will obviously look for what Apple is offering in terms of Pro Features. What has the brand changed? What has it improved? Is the iPhone 15 Pro worth spending more bucks? Which one should I buy iPhone 15 pro or iPhone 14 pro? To answer all these questions let us first have a look at what’s new in the iPhone 15 Pro.

iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro

  • New 17 Pro Chip
  • Slimmer bezels around the display
  • Titanium body
  • Lighter body
  • New color options
  • Action button instead of mute switch
  • Spatial video capability
  • New 1.2X and 1.5X focal lengths

Let us discuss how the iPhone 15 Pro is different from its predecessor:

iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro: Design & Body

Though both iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro have a 6.1-inch display, there is a change in other dimensions which means you can’t use iPhone 14 Pro’s cover for iPhone 15 Pro. iPhone 15 Pro is 8.25mm thick while iPhone 14 Pro is 7.85mm thick.

The weight has been reduced due to the titanium body as the iPhone 15 Pro weighs 188 grams while the iPhone 14 Pro weighs 206 grams.

Titanium is scratch-resistant and sustains better damage overall. It has a brushed matte texture which is a change from the glossy finish used earlier. iPhone 15 Pro has also received new color options- Natural Titanium (light grey), Blue Titanium, White Titanium, and Black Titanium.

There is a new button which Apple is calling the Action Button. It has replaced the mute switch and is programmable. By default, it still acts as a mute button, but you can set it to open the camera, or really any other app, or even more complex actions via the Shortcuts app.

The most impactful design change is the iPhone 15 Pro having a USB-C port after years of Apple using its own Lightning port. The USB-C port offers better data transfer speeds. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro have the same IP68 rating.

iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro: Display

Both have same-sized 6.1-inch displays which are ProMotion OLED panels with 2000 nits brightness, and 120Hz refresh rate. These are Always on Displays featuring Face ID and Dynamic Islands too.

There is just one change in the appearance of the screen. The borders around the iPhone 15 Pro are slimmer which makes it look elegant. Apple claims it is the thinnest border ever on a smartphone.

iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro: Performance and Software

Apple has come up with a big upgrade in terms of performance. The iPhone 15 Pro is powered by the new A17 Bionic chip which is Apple’s first chip built using a 3nm manufacturing process. Gaming performance has also gotten better due to a new GPU. iPhone 14 Pro had an A16 bionic chipset.

Both iPhones run iOS 17 software so there’s no difference in the software department. iPhone 14 Pro as well as iPhone 15 Pro support the Emergency SOS via satellite functionality which can be a life saver when you are out of cellular coverage.

iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro: Camera

In terms of specs, both iPhones have a triple camera setup at the back including a 48MP main sensor, a 3x zoom camera, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. While Apple has introduced a 5x telephoto zoom lens for now it is available only on iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Talking about differences, the 48MP main camera on iPhone 15 Pro now gives 1.2X and 1.5X sensor crop as you can set these focal lengths as your default. The ultrawide camera has gotten better with an anti-reflective coating, better night mode, HDR, and macro photography.

The biggest upgrade is in terms of video recording as Apple iPhone 15 Pro now allows spatial video recording. These spatial videos will be played best with the Apple Vision Pro headset which will be available next year. You can use an ultrawide as well as a main camera to record a spatial video.

iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro: Battery life & charging

While Apple hasn’t’ disclosed the size of the battery for the iPhone 15 Pro one thing has been made clear, the battery size is the same as the iPhone 14 Pro. The change is the introduction of the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 Pro replacing the lightning port on the iPhone 14 Pro. Other than this, there is no change in charging speed. Considering all the changes that have been made,

You should buy iPhone 15 Pro if-

1. You want to have the Action Button

The action button performs a specific action when pressed. On the iPhone 15 Pro, it has replaced the mute switch but will still act as a mute switch if you want it to. You can toggle between actions that can interact with Dynamic Island and run shortcuts too.

2. You want USB-C charging

Unlike the iPhone 14 Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro is the first generation of iPhones to use USB-C charging. Since the USB-C charging port is very common among almost all non-Apple consumer tech products, if you have a non-Apple tablet, headphones, or smartwatch, you will have USB-C cables as well.

3. You want better performance

The iPhone 15 Pro has Apple’s upgraded A17 Pro chip that offers better efficiency and performance.

You can still go for the Apple iPhone 14 Pro if-

1. You want a cheaper option

Shortly after Apple announced the iPhone 15 lineup, the iPhone 14 prices saw a huge slash. While iPhone 15 Pro starts at Rs. 1,34,900 the iPhone 14 Pro starts at Rs.1,19,990. Aside from an upgraded chip and a few cosmetic upgrades, the internal components are pretty much similar to its successor.

2. You are not ready to give up the Lightning cable

Since the iPhone 15 Series has received a USB-C port, lightning cables that were being used till the iPhone 14 Series have now become useless. However, most iPhone users will still have Lightning cables and will not be in a hurry to get rid of them. These people want to stick to the iPhone 14 Pro to use their lightning cables.

All in all, iPhone 15 Pro is one of the biggest upgrades in the iPhone 15 Series. The new A17 chipset, lightweight and thin design, titanium body, USB-C port, action button, spatial video, and more make it better than its predecessor. In conclusion, one can go for the iPhone 15 Pro if he/she gets beneficial exchange and discount offers, otherwise, it is not a must-have device.
