After months of anticipation and rumors, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has revealed its new iPhones. The entire lineup consists of four models, but we’ll stick to the baseline iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus in this article. Both models get a bunch of upgrades like the new camera array on the back, new finishes, a new A18 chipset, and, most importantly, access to all the Apple Intelligence features. Check out all details about the iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus below.
iPhone 16 And iPhone 16 Plus Design

While the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus carry a similar form factor and design as their predecessors, the camera module’s alignment is the significant change this year. So, instead of the diagonal camera array on the iPhone 15, the company has decided to go with a pill-shaped vertical cutout that houses the primary and the secondary camera sensors. While the microphone is situated within the camera island, the flash is outside.
On the front, the iPhone 16 models get the Dynamic Island released with the iPhone 14 Pro models, with symmetrical bezels around the screen. Further, Apple has retained the aluminum frames on the sides and the frosted glass panel on the rear, which was first introduced with the iPhone 15. Regarding colors, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus come in multiple colors, including Ultramarine, Teal, Pink, White, and Black.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus still carry the IP68 dust and water resistance rating, so there are no surprises there, either. However, the alignment of MagSafe magnets is slimmer than it used to be on the iPhone 15.

iPhone 16 And iPhone 16 Plus Specifications And Features
Screen
Unlike the Pro series, Apple hasn’t made any significant changes to the dimensions and, thereby, the screen of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. While the former features a 6.1-inch OLED screen, the latter flaunts a larger 6.7-inch OLED screen. On both phones, the screen houses the Face ID setup (including the front camera) in pill-shaped notch, which Apple has rebranded as the Dynamic Island. The screen is still capped at 2,000 nits of peak brightness but can not achieve 1 nit of minimum brightness for darker environments.
Performance

Under the hood, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature a new A18 chip based on Arm’s latest V9 design. The new chip has a six-core CPU with two performance and four efficient cores and a new five-core GPU. For those catching up, Apple also used the V9 technology to make the M4 chips in the latest lineup of MacBooks. While the new A18 is much more efficient than its predecessor, it can also handle all the new GenAI features. Further, the processor features a new and improved 16-core Neural Engine, which assists the main CPU in AI-related tasks.
The regular iPhone 16 models feature 8GB of RAM, which is 2GB more than their predecessors. Further, they are available in multiple storage models, starting from 128GB and 256GB, going all the way up to 512GB and 1TB. Moreover, the new chip, improved Neural Engine, and more RAM have improved the performance that users can get out of the baseline iPhones to a whole new level.
Cameras With New Camera Control Button

Unfortunately, the iPhone 16 features a similar primary sensor as the iPhone 15: a 48MP (f/1.6) shooter equipped with sensor-shift optical image stabilization, but with a new branding as “48MP Fusion Camera.” However, the 12MP (f/2.2) ultrawide camera does get an update in terms of its low-light performance. For the first time, Apple has also introduced autofocus on the ultrawide camera, enabling macro photography on the regular iPhones (a feature previously limited to the Pro models).
On the front, users get a 12MP (f/1.9) selfie shooter with autofocus. Like every year, both the iPhone models can shoot videos in 4K resolution at up to 60 frames per second. Further, they also support HDR video recording with Dolby Vision up to 4K at 60 fps. Other features, like the Photonic Engine, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 6, and Portrait Mode, with focus and depth control, remain similar to those of the iPhone 15 series.

To spice things up a bit, all the iPhone 16 models feature a new Camera Control button, which will help users while clicking pictures with the handset. The button, located on the same side as the power button, is both touch and pressure-sensitive. With a light press on the Camera Control button, users can focus the image on the subject, while pressing harder will click the image (similar to how most professional cameras work). Further, users can zoom in and out of a scene by tapping the Camera Control button. Lastly, clicking the button while holding the iPhone in landscape orientation will open the Camera app.
Battery
With the stacked battery technology, the iPhone 16 models can last longer between charges. While the iPhone 16 can last for up to 22 hours of video playback, the iPhone 16 Plus can provide up to 27 hours of video playback. Further, both phones support improved MagSafe wireless charging up to 25W with 30W adapter or higher. Users still get a USB-C to USB-C cable in the box, which supports both power delivery and data transfer. The phones also support Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W.
Connectivity Options
Connectivity options on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus include Wi-Fi 6e, Bluetooth v5.4, GPS, GLONASS, NFC, and USB Type-C 2.0 port.
Software

Apple’s iPhone 16 series will ship with iOS 18 out of the box. In fact, both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus support Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of AI-based features and experiences that will roll out later this year. As with every other iPhone, both the baseline models will receive years of software and security updates. Given the record with previous iPhones, the iPhone 16 series should get at least four to five years of new iOS updates, along with the features that the company adds to the operating system.
