Apple’s iPhone 16 series is among the most-awaited smartphone lineups of the year. While we already have a good idea of what the company could equip the series with, a new report sheds some light on the features of the iPhone 16 Pro’s cameras. In the past, we’ve heard some rumors about a new ultrawide camera and the 5x optical zoom lens on the iPhone 16 Pro. However, the report reveals more information about the new Capture Button.

The iPhone 16 Pro Could Record 4K Videos At 120 FPS

The iPhone 16 Pro is said to come with a new ultrawide camera. However, according to a new report by 9To5Mac, both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature the same camera system. In other words, the iPhone 16 Pro will get the 5x optical zoom sensor we’ve seen on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. While this happens to be a hardware change in the iPhone 16 Pro, there’s another feature that will change the way people use their Pro iPhones, especially professionals.

The publication says that the iPhone 16 Pro models can shoot videos in 4K resolution at 120 fps. For those catching up, the current generation of iPhones is limited to 60 fps for the same resolution. However, in order to use the feature, users must attach a compatible external storage device to their iPhones. Further, Apple can also upgrade the QuickTake feature, which lets users record videos in Photo Mode (by holding the shutter button), with support for 4K resolution.

Apple Has Also Tested 8K Video Recording On The iPhone 16 Pro Models

Interestingly, the publication has also seen evidence of Apple testing 8K video recordings on the iPhone 16 Pro. Given that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature 48MP primary and 48MP secondary cameras, it is possible for the phones to record 8K videos, at least in theory. Further, the A18 Pro chip on the iPhones surely has the capability to record such high-resolution videos. Nonetheless, whether the company will include the feature on consumer units isn’t known yet.

The newer iPhones could also support JPEG-XL format for capturing lossy/lossless photos. They could also include a pause/resume button while recording videos. The phones should also be available to remove wind noise while recording videos and new Photographic Styles (iPhones’ built-in tones for capturing pictures). Further, phones could use better image processing to preserve natural skin tones. Last but not least, the new iPhones could also capture Spatial Photos for viewing in 3D on the Apple Vision Pro.

The Camera Button Could Pressure-Sensitive Inputs

iPhone 16 Capture Button Will Allow Zoom in & Out

Regarding the rumored Capture Button (or Camera Button), the publication says that it could trigger different actions depending on how users press or slide it. While the button is primarily for opening the Camera app, it could also be programmed to do other tasks. Interestingly, the buttons could be similar to shutter buttons on professional cameras; they have different pressure levels that trigger various actions. On the iPhone 16 series, a soft pressing of the Camera button could focus the image on a subject, while a hard pressing could click the image.

Apple will put an end to all these rumors today, as it will host the Glowtime iPhone 16 launch event from 10:30 PM IST. Check out more details about the event, including where to watch and what to expect, here.
