In September 2024, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is expected to release the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Considering the slew of rumors and reports on the internet, these models should feature top-tier hardware and software. Given that other companies like Google and Samsung have already released AI-based features on their smartphones, the Apple iPhone 16 series will also catch up with the industrial trend by incorporating machine learning in iOS 18. Here’s an early roundup of the iPhone 16 Pro rumors and reports.

iPhone 16 Pro Screen Size

iPhone 16 Pro Mockups Features a Capture Button

Several reports suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max could have a 6.3-inch and a 6.9-inch display, respectively. If that happens, the phones will also be slightly taller and wider.

A recent report by GSMArena mentions that the phones will feature Micro Lens Array (MLA) OLED panels. This should improve brightness and viewing angles, ultimately providing a better experience than the regular OLED panels on other smartphones.

iPhone 16 Pro Design

The overall design language of the series will be the same as that of the iPhone 15 Pro. The handset could retain its boxy design and Titanium frame. However, Apple might introduce a new Capture Button on the right frame, toward the bottom.

The button will be mechanical, but a MacRumors roundup mentions that it can also respond to touch and force. This should also enable it to emulate the shutter buttons on professional cameras, which respond to two force levels.

iPhone 16 Pro Will Be A Performance Beast

With the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple introduced the A17 Pro chipset, the most powerful in this segment. With the iPhone 16 Pro series this year, the company should launch another A-series processor, which will likely be called the A18 Pro.

The processor will be based on the second generation of 3nm chips from TSMC, based on the N3E technology. The new fabrication technique should improve the power efficiency of the chipset and, at the same time, provide the bandwidth for the expected on-device AI features.

Along with the new processor, the iPhone 16 Pro models should also have a new heat dissipation system. The models come with a metal battery casing that could help with better heat distribution, especially during charging.

Will Apple Ship The iPhone 16 Pro With Bigger Storage?

The series should debut with 8GB of RAM. Regarding storage, rumors suggest that the company could release a 2TB storage variant this time. It might not be for everyone, but that amount of storage could surely benefit creative professionals.

A DigiTimes report suggests that the company could use slower memory on the 1TB iPhone 16 Pro version.

Update (April 16, 2024): The current iPhone 15 Pro features a minimum storage of 128GB. However, that could change with the iPhone 16 Pro. According to The Mac Observer, Apple will increase the storage on iPhone 16 Pro’s base model from 128GB to 256GB. Even though the source of this leak doesn’t have a track record, there’s a really good chance that this could be true.

For years, iPhone users have been asking for more storage on the base model. Back in 2018, the iPhone X launched with 64GB of storage on the entry-level variant. However, in 2020, the iPhone 12 Pro became the first iPhone to ship with 128GB of storage on the baseline model. The next year, Apple normalized 128GB of storage across all the models in the iPhone 13 lineup.

That said, there are two ways this rumor could pan out. First, Apple could increase the storage on iPhone 16 Pro to 256GB this year. While this will benefit the Pro iPhone users this year, it could also mean that 256GB may become the new norm for 2025. This could help Apple push its sales as well.

What About The Cameras On The iPhone 16 Pro?

While both the Pro models should have an improved eight-part hybrid lens 48MP primary sensor for even better dynamic range and low-light performance, they could also feature a 48MP ultra-wide sensor. This will finally bridge the gap since the iPhone 14 Pro switched to a 48MP primary sensor, leaving the ultra-wide sensor’s resolution at 12MP.

Further, the iPhone 16 Pro could also come with a tetra prism zoom lens, like the top-tier model, that will provide 5x optical zoom. One tipster also suggests that the Max variant could feature a super telephoto camera with an equivalent focal length of over 300mm.

iPhone 16 Pro Battery Life

The iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max could feature stacked battery technology, offering better battery life. Recently, a tipster also predicted the battery capacities of the iPhone 16 lineup, suggesting that the regular and the Pro Max variants will get a significant battery bump. We also expect faster charging speeds along with the increased battery life.
