iPhone 17 Air to be port free?

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reports that Apple intends to eliminate the USB-C port from the iPhone 17 Air, marking the company’s first step towards a fully port-free iPhone. This shift could signal a transition to sleeker models devoid of charging ports. Previously, Apple had considered going port-free but abandoned the plan to avoid potential conflicts with EU regulators, who preferred the adoption of USB-C over the older Lightning ports.

Gurman reports that Apple remains optimistic about developing a port-free design for future slim iPhones, contingent on the performance of the iPhone 17 Air. In his analysis, he states, “the iPhone 17 Air signifies the start of a significant transformation for Apple.”

Company executives are confident that a successful launch of the iPhone 17 Air will lead to the introduction of additional portless, slimmer models. The iPhone 17 Air is expected to retain the USB-C port and feature a 6.6-inch display, Dynamic Island, a camera control button, and battery life on par with current iPhone models.
