iOS 17.3 rolled out to the public a few days ago and earlier today, we got iOS 17.4 beta 1 for iPhones and iPads with a tonne of upgrades. With that being said, internal documents on iOS 17.4 also hint at possible Apple Pencil 3 compatibility with the Find My network.

Yep, you read that right. Soon, you will be able to locate your lost Apple Pencil 3 with the Find My network on your iPhone. This comes from internal files on the iOS 17.4 as seen by the folks at 9to5Mac, however, to whom, Apple Pencil 3 could get the same capability as AirTags and AirPods.

It remains a mystery if Apple is planning on adding Ultra Wideband technology to the Apple Pencil with precise findings or if the accessory will be able to show its last location plotted on a map.

Apple Pencil 3 could gain Find My feature, hints iOS 17.4

Surprisingly, Apple is also sending out the PencilKit 3 API that allows developers to make their apps compatible with the Pencil. With the PencilKit 3 in place, developers should be able to add more features powered by the Apple Pencil. For the unversed, the PencilKit 2 rolled out with iPadOS 17.0 added features such as crayon, watercolor, fountain pen, and monoline among others.

Thus, PencilKit 3 should be able to add more capabilities that would ultimately require more hardware upgrades, however, that remains under wraps at the moment. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman pointed out Apple is working on redesigned accessories for its next-gen iPad Pro and an Apple Pencil 3 could be one of them. We also heard in a previous report that Pencil 3 will have interchangeable magnetic tips. If true, this would make it easier for users to swap between multiple tips.

There’s a next-gen iPad Pro 2024 in the world with an OLED display, Magic Keyboard, and a larger trackpad onboard. It will be powered by an M3 chip and there’s gonna be MagSafe charging capabilities too as per the report. It is slated to arrive sometime in March alongside iOS 17.4 public version although we will have to wait till something concrete shows up.
