TL;DR
- The new Mac mini occupies less than half the footprint of its predecessor.
- It comes in two models: one with the M4 chip and the other with the new M4 Pro chip.
- To keep the temperature in the optimum range, the M4 Mac mini relies on the power efficiency of the chipsets and a new thermal architecture
After unveiling the M4 iMac on Monday, Apple announced the new Mac mini with the M4 chip on Tuesday. When compared to its predecessor, the device is significantly smaller, offers better performance and efficiency, and faster data transfer on top-end models. The new Mac mini is the first Mac to feature the M4 Pro chip, offering a GPU that’s twice as fast as that on the regular M4. Here’s everything you need to know about the new device, including key features, price, and availability.

M4 Mac mini Is Surprisingly Tiny

The most unique aspect of the new Mac mini is its dimensions. Sitting on a table, the device measures just five by five inches. The overall footprint of the portable computer is less than half of its predecessor, which is a feat of engineering.
Apple’s New M4 Pro Chip Is Here

With the new Mac mini, Apple has introduced the M4 Pro chip. As the name suggests, the chip is more powerful than the regular M4 chip. While the former has up to 14 CPU cores (10 performance and four efficiency cores) and up to 20 GPU cores, the M4 Pro is a performance beast.
The chipset is available on the model with 24GB of unified memory and 512GB of SSD storage. Further, it is configurable up to 64GB of unified memory and 8TB of storage. It is worth mentioning that the M4 Pro Mac mini is the first in its lineup to feature Thunderbolt 5 ports (three ports on the rear), which delivers a data transfer speed of up to 120 Gb/s.
The processor also offers 273GB/s of memory bandwidth. With M4 Pro, the Mac mini supports up to three 6K displays at 60Hz.

Mac mini With Regular M4 Offers A 10-Core CPU

The Mac mini with the regular M4 chip features a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU, along with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage on the base model. The M4 chip is configurable with up to 32GB of unified memory, 2TB of storage, and either regular or 10 Gigabit ethernet (and so is the Mac mini with M4 Pro).
While the Thunderbolt 5 ports are exclusive to the M4 Pro Mac mini, the M4 Mac mini has three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the back. Besides, both models feature one HDMI port on the back, two USB-C ports, and a headphone jack on the front.
New Thermal Architecture And Apple Intelligence Among The Key Features

To keep the temperature in the optimum range, the M4 Mac mini relies on the power efficiency of the chipsets and a new thermal architecture, which guides air from the bottom of the housing to all the different levels. With the regular M4 chipset, the Mac mini can support up to two 6K displays and up to one 5K display.
Like the newly-launched M4 iMac, the M4 Mac mini will ship with Apple Intelligence out of the box. With macOS Sequoia 15.1, users can use the system-wide Writing Tools, which help with proofreading, rewriting, or summarizing text. Last but not least, the new Mac mini is Apple’s first carbon-neutral Mac, which is a significant milestone in the company’s goal of becoming carbon-neutral.
