TL; DR
- Apple is testing a 1/1.12-inch 200 MP sensor, same size as OPPO Find X9 Ultra main (per DCS Weibo).
- OPPO is already pushing a 1/1.28-inch periscope with the Find X9 Ultra, same size as iPhone 17 Pro main camera.
Apple is reportedly testing a 1/1.12-inch 200 MP sensor for future iPhone Pro models, and this comes from DCS on Weibo. He didn’t name the sensor, he just said it’s the same size as what OPPO is using on the Find X9 Ultra.

Now the interesting part is what OPPO is doing alongside this. The Find X9 Ultra already uses a large 1/1.12-inch main camera, but the periscope on X9 Ultra is expected to be around 1/1.28-inch, which is basically the same size as the main camera on the iPhone 17 Pro. So you’re looking at a situation where OPPO’s zoom camera is already matching Apple’s primary sensor size.

And this is not where it stops. As per the same set of leaks, OPPO is planning to push this further with the next generation. The Find X10 Ultra is expected to move to a 1/1.12-inch periscope around Q2 next year, and later in the year, the Find X10 Pro Max could use a 1/1.28-inch periscope as well. So by the time Apple reaches this sensor size on the main camera, OPPO will already be putting that same size into telephoto systems.

Apple’s timeline still looks like 2027 for a possible 200 MP camera, and even that depends on how testing goes. Meanwhile, other brands are scaling sensor sizes across both main and zoom cameras at a much faster pace. This whole situation just shows how differently companies are approaching camera hardware right now, especially when it comes to sensor size and zoom.
