TL; DR
  • Apple TV app is now on Android phones & tablets. You can now stream Apple TV+ shows without an Apple device.
  • There’s still no casting support—no AirPlay, Google Cast, or Miracast.
  • There’s a 7-day free trial for new users.

Apple just did something unexpected—it finally brought the Apple TV app to Android smartphones and tablets, including Samsung Galaxy devices. That means you can now stream Apple TV+ shows and movies directly on your Android device, without needing an Apple product. This is the second Apple service app available on Android, after Apple Music.

Available on Android Smartphones and Tablets

Previously, the Apple TV app was only available on Android TV devices and media streamers, like Chromecast with Google TV.

Now, you can download it from the Google Play Store on your Android phone or tablet and start watching Apple TV+ originals like Ted Lasso, Severance, and Silo.

Apple is even offering a 7-day free trial for new users, letting you explore its content before committing to a subscription.

But Here’s One Downside…

Apple TV+

While this update is great for Android users, Apple hasn’t added support for casting via AirPlay, Google Cast, or Miracast. That means you can’t stream Apple TV+ content to a bigger screen from your Android phone, limiting it to just your device’s display.

Apple TV+ has been available on Samsung smart TVs and other TVs for a while, but expanding to Android smartphones and tablets makes it more accessible. However, the lack of casting support feels like a deliberate limitation, perhaps to keep users within Apple’s ecosystem when it comes to big-screen viewing.

Still, if you have a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet, you can download the Apple TV app today and start watching. What are your thoughts on Apple TV coming to Android finally? Let me know in the comments section below.
