TL;DR
  • Apple is working on the iPad Pro with the M5 chipset.
  • Launch expected later in 2025.
  • The iPad Pro with M5 will get a performance boost, but retain the same design as the iPad Pro with M4.

In 2025, Cupertino’s The Giant Apple has been exceptionally busy, introducing products such as the iPhone 16e, MacBook Air featuring the M4 chipset, Mac Studio equipped with the M4 Max chipset, iPad Air with the M3, and the iPad powered by the A16 chipset. It appears that Apple is not planning to ease up, as significant releases for 2025 are expected to extend beyond just the iPhone 17 Series.

Apple is said to be developing its upcoming iPad Pro, which will feature the M5 System on Chip (SoC). This new M-Series chipset is expected to deliver a significant performance enhancement compared to the M4. With the increasing demand for AI capabilities, the company aims to provide iPad Pro users with enhanced functionalities. Additionally, information regarding the anticipated launch timeline has also emerged.

Apple iPad Pro with M5: Details & Launch Timeline

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman claims in his newsletter ‘Power On’ that the M5-powered iPad Pro is currently in the ‘late-testing’ phase and can be seen with four codenames- J817, J818, J820, and J821, which represent four variants of the upcoming iPad Pro. Gurman also writes that the next iPad Pro will come with performance upgrades due to a new chipset, but will feature the same design as the previous gen iPad Pro, as it received a fresh look in 2024. This included thinner bezels, an OLED panel, a slimmer profile, and a new front-facing camera for landscape orientation.

iPad Pro with M5 is on track for production in the 2nd half of 2025, which means a late 2025 launch. A specific launch date is unclear, but it is tipped to go official after the iPhone 17 lineup.

Seems like iPad Pro with M5 isn’t the only upgrade Apple’s working on. This is because Mark Gurman claims that the company is planning to launch some more devices-

  • iPad Pro powered by M6 (first to come with in-house radio chips). This will arrive in 2027.
  • New MacBook Air & MacBook Pro versions with M5 chipset.
  • Reworking on Health App to integrate a new feature, health coach, which will arrive with iOS 19.4 update next year. It will talk like a real doctor, claims Gurman.
