While Samsung is out there launching its sixth generation of clamshell foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Flip6, Apple is still only selling slab phones. However, this won’t be the case for long, at least as per the leaks and rumors.
Apple is also planning to develop its own clamshell foldable, with the display apparently supplied by Samsung. As one of the biggest manufacturers of foldable displays, Samsung already supplies these for devices like the Motorola Razr, so it makes sense for Apple to source from them too.
According to a leak, Apple’s foldable iPhone, or the Apple Flip, as it’s being called, will have the same dimensions as a regular iPhone in terms of width and height. However, the thickness should differ, especially when folded, otherwise, it could make it around 1.5 to 2 cm thick.

A similar width and height to those of a regular iPhone mean that the Apple foldable will be more compact and comfortable when unfolded, unlike the current flips, which are tall and narrow with a 6.9-inch screen.
There aren’t many details about the specs of Apple’s foldable yet, but given Apple’s typical two-year development cycle, we might see the Apple foldable launch in 2026 alongside the iPhone 18 series. This could mean it will be powered by the A20 or A20 Pro chip, although it’s hard to predict Apple’s naming conventions that far ahead.

The earlier plans for an iPad foldable and a book-style iPhone foldable seem to have been halted or cancelled, at least for now. The reason behind this is unknown, but Apple seems to be betting more on a clamshell foldable, from what we can tell.
Also, Apple seems to be taking its time to ensure the tech is mature enough before jumping into the foldable race. What do you think about Apple’s foldable plans? What are your expectations? Let us know in the comments below.
