The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has unveiled the new M4 iMac. Taking the baton from the M3 iMac (which came out in October 2023), the M4 iMac offers a couple of subtle yet impactful upgrades. Besides the new chip, the all-in-one PC supports Apple Intelligence, features a new Center Stage camera, and faster wireless connectivity via Wi-Fi 6E. M4 iMac Comes In 7 Colors
While Apple has retained the overall design language of the M3 iMac, it has introduced the M4 iMac in a wide range of colors. The new iMac comes in green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. While the back of the computer features a darker hue of color, the front features a subtle shade of the new palette. Further, every model ships with a color-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad (all the accessories now feature a USB-C port).
M4 iMac Key Features And Specifications
The new iMac comes with a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with a resolution of 4480 x 2520 pixels (218 ppi), support for 1 billion colors, and the P3 color gamut. Capable of achieving 500 nits of peak brightness, the display also offers Apple’s True Tone technology.
This is basically the same screen as the M3 iMac, except that it is configurable with nano-texture glass, which helps reduce the reflections and glare. The chassis also houses a six-speaker system with force-cancelling woofers for generating wide stereo sound, support for Spatial Audio, and a three-mic studio quality array with a high signal-to-noise ratio.
Under the hood, the new iMac features the M4 chip in two variants. While the base model features an eight-core CPU and an eight-core GPU, the top model sports a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. All the models have a 16-core Neural Engine and provide 120GB/s of memory bandwidth.

Although Apple compares the M4 iMac to the M1 iMac, the M4 chip provides about 20 to 25% performance improvement over the M3 chip, and the same should be true for the new iMac. This year, the company has doubled the unified memory on the iMac from 8GB to 16GB (standard on all models, configurable up to 32GB).
Although the unified memory gets a bump, the base storage remains the same across the M4 iMac lineup: 256GB (configurable up to 2TB). Out of the box, the iMac runs on macOS Sequoia, which comes with updates to Safari, iPhone Mirroring, Window Tiling, and support for Apple Intelligence.
Even though Apple is relying on the suite of GenAI features that have been released today, even the M1 iMac from a couple of years ago supports Apple Intelligence.
Besides the new processor and the increased unified memory, the 2024 iMac features a new 12MP Center Stage camera with support for Desk View. For those catching up, Center Stage is a feature that recognizes the user’s face and tries to keep it in the center of the frame during FaceTime calls. Given that the Center Stage camera on iPads has an ultra-wide field of view, we’re expecting the same from the new iMac.

M4 iMac Price And Availability
The M4 iMac, with an eight-core CPU and two Thunderbolt 4 ports, starts from Rs. 1,34,900, while the model with a 10-core CPU and four Thunderbolt 4 ports starts from Rs. 1,54,900. While the models are currently available for pre-orders, they’ll start shipping from November 8, 2024.
Those with a valid student ID can avail of Apple’s education discount, which reduces the prices of all the models by Rs. 10,000.
