Base Galaxy S27 Phones May Keep a Selfie Camera Samsung Has Used Since 2023

TL; DR
  • Samsung’s Galaxy S27 and S27+ reportedly keep the 12MP selfie camera.
  • The S27 Pro and S27 Ultra are rumored to get a 16MP front camera.
  • Everything is unconfirmed, sourced to GalaxyClub, with launch expected early next year.

Samsung’s next regular Galaxy phones (the non-Pro and non-Ultra ones) may skip a camera upgrade that their pricier siblings will most certainly get. A new leak suggests the selfie camera on the regular Galaxy S27 and S27+ could match the outgoing models.

Only The Pricey Ones Might Get A Better Selfie Camera

Dutch site GalaxyClub reports that the Galaxy S27 and S27+ will carry a 12MP front camera, with the same sensor size, aperture, and optics as the Galaxy S26 series. Even more depressing, Samsung has used the same camera sensor for five generations (since the Galaxy S23).

At a time when competitors are bringing ultrawide-angle selfies and a Center Stage selfie experience, this feels like a disappointment for buyers. The higher-end Galaxy S27 Pro and S27 Ultra are said to move to a 16MP front camera. For context, this year’s Galaxy S26 Ultra has a 12MP selfie camera with an f/2.2 aperture, the lens opening that controls how much light gets in.

Pricing And Launch: Early Next Year (Expected)

The Galaxy S27 lineup, with a fourth purported variant called the Galaxy S27 Pro, is expected in India and other markets early next year. Reports relay rumored US pricing of $899 for the S27 and $1,099 for the S27+, with $999 and $1,199 in other global markets.

I read the split as Samsung widening the gap between its regular and premium tiers, though that’s my interpretation.
