A couple of days ago, we did a story on the Pixel 9’s benchmark listing, which revealed crucial information about the Tensor G4 SoC and its performance scores. Now, another member of the Pixel 9 family, the purported Pixel 9 Pro XL, has visited Geekbench. While this solidifies the rumors around the presence of this model in the Pixel 9 lineup, it also throws some light on what the Tensor G4 SoC is capable of with slightly better hardware.

Geekbench Listing Confirms Tensor G4’s Core Structure

Pixel 9 Pro XL geekbench listing

The Geekbench listing appeared on June 17, with the model ID “Google Pixel 9 Pro XL.” This is the third model in the lineup and is about to hit markets later this year. The handset seems to carry the same processor as the Pixel 9, with a 1 + 3 + 4 cluster design, where the prime core is clocked at 3.10 GHz, three cores at 2.60 GHz, and four cores at 1.95 GHz. What’s interesting is that the top-tier variant appeared for the benchmark test with 16GB of RAM, the highest on any Pixel device to date.

Here’s What The Pixel 9 Pro XL Scored In The Benchmark Test

Pixel 9 Pro XL geekbench listing

Per the benchmark listing, the Pixel 9 Pro XL scored 1,950 points in the single-core and 4,655 points in the multi-core score, which, in our opinion, is decent. Last year’s Pixel 8 Pro (with 12GB of RAM) scored around 1,760 points in the single-core and 4,442 points in the multi-core test. From that perspective, the Pixel 9 Pro XL’s score is not as significant an upgrade as it should have been, especially when top-tier flagships from Samsung and Apple are pushing the benchmark scores to new records.

It is important to mention that synthetic benchmark scores aren’t an indicator of the day-to-day performance the smartphone will provide; they provide an estimate of its peak performance. Even so, it is slightly disappointing to see how Google hasn’t been able to catch up with the competition regarding raw performance numbers. The Tensor G3 SoC also had some heat management issues, which we hope have been addressed during the development of the Tensor G4.
