The German automaker BMW has launched the BMW i5, an electric sedan in India. With a sporty look and a capable drivetrain, the car costs over a crore in India (ex-showroom price). Check out more details about its design, exterior, interior, drivetrain, and battery pack here. The BMW i5 is based on the new-gen 5 series, which is where the electric sedan’s design comes from.

Among the most noticeable exterior elements include a kidney-shaped grill (with illumination on the edges), the iconic LED headlights (with two DRLs in each), and the 20-inch M-specific allow wheels with red calipers. The EV maintains a low profile with a coupe-like roof and an extended rear bumper.

Exterior

On the rear, there’s the company’s badging at the center, with wing-styled lamps and a boot lip spoiler. The BMW i5 is available in several metallic shades, including M Brooklyn Grey, M Carbon Black, Cape York Green, Phytonic Blue, Black Saphhire, Sophisto Grey, Oxide Grey, and Mineral White.

The most striking element in the interiors is the dual-curved display setup, which seamlessly blends the 14.9-inch infotainment system into the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The cabin also includes four-zone climatic control, wireless phone charging, ventilated seats (front), and a panoramic sunroof.

Battery Pack And Drivetrain

With an 81.2 kWh battery, the EV is rated to provide a range of 516 kilometers. Those in the vicinity of a 205kW DC charger can juice up the battery pack from 10 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes.

The all-wheel drive drivetrain includes two electric motors producing 601 PS of power and 795 Nm of torque. With the powerful battery and motors, the BWN i5 can go from zero to 100 kmph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 kmph.

Price And Availability

The BMW i5 is only available in the top-spec M60 xDrive variant and costs Rs. 1,19,50,000 (ex-showroom). The company will start delivering the car in May 2024.

While the sedan is covered by a 2-year/unlimited kilometers warranty, the battery pack is covered by an 8-year/1.6-lakh kilometer warranty.
