BYD has unveiled the next generation of its popular electric SUV, the BYD Atto 3 at the Beijing Auto Show 2026. The new BYD Atto 3 comes with many updates across the board. Called the Yuan Plus in China, the new Atto 3 comes with an updated design which is bigger, better equipment like BYD’s second-gen blade technology, and more. Given that the BYD Atto 3 is the most accessible BYD car in India, this will surely garner a lot of interest in India. With that, let us take a look at what the new BYD Atto 3 offers and what to expect as a potential buyer in India.

The new BYD Atto 3 is larger than the outgoing variant. The new model measures 4,665mm in length, 1,895mm in width and 1,675mm in height, making it 210mm longer, 20mm wider and 60mm taller than the version currently on sale in India. That is not a minor tweak, it pushes the Atto 3 firmly into the territory of larger crossover SUVs. The wheelbase, too, has grown: it has stretched by 50mm to 2,770mm which should translate into noticeably more space in the rear.

On the outside, the new Atto 3 gets a revised front fascia. The bumper looks new, the alloy wheel design has changed with the 19-inch wheels. There is also a new LED tail-light design, but the front headlight and connecting DRL design remains largely familiar. At the back, BYD has added an illuminated logo, something that’s becoming increasingly common among car brands in 2026. The overall silhouette feels sharper and more assertive than the current model, which should help it stand out in India’s increasingly crowded premium electric SUV segment.

Interiors of the new BYD Atto 3 look straight out of a 2 Fast 2 Furious car. The interior now gets a redesigned two-spoke steering wheel, a front-passenger seat with an additional reclining function, and a heated and cooled storage box. The feature list also includes a panoramic glass roof, 256-colour ambient lighting system, a 16-speaker audio system, 50W wireless charging, and 60W USB Type-C charging. The LiDAR-assisted automated driving suite, however, might not make it to the Indian variants of the BYD Atto 3.

The new-gen BYD Atto 3 is offered in two battery configurations: 57.54kWh and 68.54kWh. These use BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery technology, delivering claimed ranges of 540km and 630km respectively. Both battery variants now power a rear-mounted electric motor, available in outputs of 272hp and 327hp. Moving to rear-wheel drive is an interesting change from the typical front-wheel-drive setup seen in many mainstream EVs, and it should make the new BYD Atto 3 a more dynamically engaging car to drive, something that may appeal to buyers who want performance alongside practicality.

One of the most headline-grabbing claims BYD has made about the new Atto 3 involves its fast-charging capability. BYD says the new ‘Flash Charging’ system can bring the battery from 10 to 97 percent in just 9 minutes. But in India that is unlikely since the charging infrastructure is still under-developed and public chargers around 100 kW speeds are still rare.
BYD has not yet officially confirmed plans to bring the new-gen Atto 3 to India but given that the current Atto 3 is the brand’s most affordable and volume-driving product here, it will most likely make it to our shores. When it does arrive, expect BYD India to offer one or both battery configurations, likely priced somewhere in the ₹25–35 lakh range to maintain its positioning. The LiDAR-assisted driving suite may be toned down or replaced with a more regulation-friendly ADAS package. Boot space is at 750 litres at the rear plus an additional 180 litres in the frunk. The new BYD Atto 3, if it arrives with even 80 percent of what’s been shown in Beijing, could be one of the most compelling electric SUVs in the ₹30 lakh bracket.
