BYD Sealion 7 vs. Competition: Key Takeways

  • Out of the five premium electric vehicles, the BYD Sealion 7 is the longest and the widest. However, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the tallest of all.
  • The Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 offer the largest boot at 520 liters, followed by the BYD Sealion 7 (500 liters).
  • Given that these are different types of cars, they offer different ground clearances. To go purely by the numbers, the BMW iX1 LWB has an unladen ground clearance of 190mm, followed by the Kia EV6 (178 mm) and the Volvo C40 Recharge (171 mm).
  • When it comes to wheelbase, the Ioniq 5 has the longest wheelbase (3,000 mm), followed by the Sealion 7 (2,930 mm) and the EV6 (2,900 mm).

  • Regarding battery capacity, the Kia EV6 offers the largest battery cell: 84 kWh. It also has the highest claimed range of over 650 kilometers. The vehicle is followed by the BYD Sealion 7, which features an 82.5 kWh battery pack and has a claimed range of up to 567 kilometers.
  • Though the Ioniq 5 has a smaller battery pack (72.6 kWh), it offers a claimed range of up to 631 kilometers.
  • While the Sealion 7, EV6, and C40 Recharge are available in an all-wheel-drive (AWD) configuration, the IX1 LWB and Ioniq 5 don’t come with an AWD setup.
  • It seems that the Ioniq 5 supports the fastest DC charging of all, but the effective charging speed will depend on the charger’s supported speed that the user goes to.
