There were speculations that Nothing is working on a phone. Turns out this is true as reports showcasing a phone in existence have come to the spotlight. I am talking about a leaked photo of Carl Pei, founder of Nothing and ex-OnePlus showing off the phone to Qualcomm’s head honcho Cristiano Amon presumably at the MWC 2022.

Nothing Phone (1) image leaks

The photo doesn’t show the purported smartphone as a whole but rather is a black-colored phone case probably to save it from shutterbugs. The phone doesn’t seem any different so there’s a circular camera bump at the back, a boxy design much like the current lineup of smartphones and everything else remains under a thick camouflage.

Whether or not the pic was captured in the wild or staged remains a question. Talking about the phone, it could be named Nothing Phone (1) or Phone 1 given that Nothing’s first product was dubbed as Nothing Ear (1). But we will have to give Nothing flexibility to change the name as we aren’t aware of it just yet.

Nothing Phone 1 MWC 2022

The image does show the phone with some stickers on its back. This potentially hints that the phone is a prototype. It is expected to arrive next month i.e. in April so let’s see how it all pans out. There’s speculation that Nothing Phone (1) will be using an element of transparency much like Ear (1) buds that were released a few months ago.

Nothing will be using a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset as signaled by Amon at the MWC 2022 and also the Twitter thread between Android, Nothing, and Qualcomm that was in the news a few days ago. Just what processor it will use is again a mystery since we don’t know if it will use a mid-range or a premium flagship chipset such as SD8 Gen1 or SD888 etc.

As usual, there are a lot of details that we are waiting to arrive so it is just a matter of time until it does show up on our radar.
