In a move to address the growing demand for ultra-large televisions, LG Electronics is set to introduce its first 98-inch QNED TV as part of the 2024 QED TV lineup. The announcement comes in response to the increasing competition in the market, where other brands have already launched super-sized LED LCD TVs at more affordable prices.

LG, a pioneer in OLED technology, has been known for delivering exceptional picture quality with its self-emissive display. However, the 97-inch LG G2 Gallery Series OLED has remained prohibitively expensive at more than Rs 2.5lakhs almost two years after its launch. Recognizing the need to tap into the fast-growing segment of super-large TVs, LG has now entered the arena with its 98-inch QNED TV.

LG 2024 QNED TV line-up and their Features

The 98-inch QNED TV boasts a new Alpha 8 processor, inheriting features from the alpha 9 chipset. Noteworthy is the inclusion of four HDMI 2.1 ports with a full 48 Gbps bandwidth, making it an attractive choice for users with multiple HDMI 2.1 source devices, such as gaming consoles and high-end PCs. This feature positions the TV as an excellent option for gaming enthusiasts looking to experience 4K gaming on an ultra-large display.

While the TV employs a direct LED backlight instead of the pricier mini LED, LG assures that local dimming is still in place to enhance contrast performance and overall picture quality. For those seeking an upgrade to mini LED backlight technology, LG offers the QNED 90T series, available in 65, 75, and 86 inches.

During a press briefing, LG emphasized the importance of local dimming zones, citing the number of independently dimmable zones and the levels of dimming they allow. The QNED 90T series implements 1 million levels of grayscale shading to enhance shadow detail, sharpness, and visual impact in dark scenes.

LG’s 2024 QNED TV lineup includes the top-end QNED 99T, an 8K model featuring mini LED backlighting, Alpha 9 8K processor, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The QNED 85T and QNED 80T models showcase a slimmer design with a two-way stand, providing flexibility for users to choose between a low-profile or raised position to accommodate accessories like soundbars.

Despite the use of IPS LCD panels in the QNED TVs, LG highlights unique selling points such as the intuitive webOS Smart TV platform and 3D L calibration through Calman AutoCal for enhanced color accuracy. The entry-level QNED 80, available in an 86-inch screen size, features a 60Hz display and an Alpha 5 processor.

While LG has unveiled its QNED TV range, the anticipation for the 2024 OLED TV lineup continues to build, with leaked information suggesting some key features on the upcoming LG C4 OLED, as gleaned from online certification websites. Stay tuned for further updates as LG prepares to make its mark in the evolving landscape of home entertainment technology.
