Samsung’s Ballie smart home robot was initially unveiled at CES 2020, and after five years, it is set to become a reality. With CES 2025 commencing tomorrow in Las Vegas, Samsung has revealed that the yellow robot will be available in the US later this year. Ballie features an integrated projector that enables it to stream content and display information on different surfaces, effectively transforming your home walls into screens. During the presentation, Samsung demonstrated Ballie projecting the movie Uncharted onto a wall, with the ability to adjust the screen size by utilizing a larger surface.

Samsung’s Ballie robot integrates voice recognition with advanced sensor technology, enabling users to engage through ‘foot presses’ on virtual buttons for command input and selections. For instance, the robot can assist in wine pairing by posing follow-up questions and offering suggestions tailored to the user’s responses.

The robot is equipped with integrated speakers for audio output and will encounter significant competition from smart home robots such as the Amazon Astro, which is priced at $1,600. Samsung’s Ballie has a particular emphasis on smart home integration, positioning it as a potential game changer in the rapidly changing realm of home automation.

Samsung’s Ballie Robot is set to launch in the first half of 2025, maintaining the design aesthetic of its predecessor. This robot features a yellow, football-sized, baseball-shaped body equipped with a camera, laser projector, and motion sensors for navigation, among other capabilities.

The robot functions as a home security camera and is equipped with LiDAR technology, which allows it to measure distances between objects. Additionally, Samsung has integrated a Time of Flight camera sensor to achieve similar capabilities. This robot is designed to map its surroundings thoroughly and patrol the interior of the home to identify any security breaches when the owner is away. The rear camera offers 2K video resolution, while the front camera is capable of streaming in 4K.

The Samsung Ballie robot is designed to accompany its owner throughout the home, providing real-time updates on traffic, weather, news, and sports. Additionally, it can assist in managing various IoT devices, including security cameras at the entrance and air conditioning units to regulate room temperature, as well as controlling smart geysers. Furthermore, this AI-powered robot can aid in creating grocery lists prior to shopping trips.

The owner just has to say ‘Hey Ballie’ to start talking with the Samsung robot and perform any task. For now, it will support three languages only- English, Spanish, and Korean.

LG and Apple have also shown interest in home robotics, but the plans of the Cupertino-based tech giant are still shrouded in mystery.
