TL; DR
  • ColorOS 16.1 is expected to launch with the Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s Pro, marking the first major update for ColorOS 16.
  • It brings a redesigned camera app, new Lockscreen Island for music, calls, maps, timers, and other live activities, revamped stacked notifications, Contour Glow effects, and even smoother system animations.

ColorOS 16.1 is expected to arrive soon, and this is probably the first time OPPO is doing a major 0.1 update in this way. Instead of being a small follow-up release, this one looks like a full visual and feature refresh. The biggest changes include a brand new Lockscreen Island, a new camera interface, updated notifications, and broader UI polish across the system. ColorOS is already known for smooth animations, and with 16.1 OPPO is pushing that even further.

New Camera UI

One of the biggest changes is the new camera app design. OPPO is moving to a cleaner and more compact layout with a glassy visual style, similar to the iOS 26 camera app.

Controls now appear more organized and easier to reach, while the interface keeps more information visible on screen. The updated design has already appeared in teasers of the Find X9 Ultra.

Redesigned Lockscreen Island

Another major change is the new Lockscreen Island interface. This acts as a live activity hub directly on the lock screen for media playback, calls, timers, maps, torch status, recording timers, weather updates, and other active tasks.

From the lock screen media player, users can swipe down into the Lockscreen Island view. Tapping it can expand it into a larger full-screen player with album art, playback controls, and lyrics shown between the artwork and controls. There is also a dedicated lyrics shortcut to play lyrics right in the lock screen.

The panel can expand slightly for some activities or go full screen depending on what is active. Multiple live activities can also stack together in a cleaner layout. This might sound similar to Now Bar, but it’s actually inspired by Huawei’s HarmonyOS, with a far better implementation.

Notification Center Redesign

ColorOS 16.1

The notification center is being reworked with a stacked independent style. Notifications are separated more clearly, making them easier to read and manage.

Quick reply features are also being improved, and the whole notification area follows the new transparent glass-inspired design language with the Contour Glow effects.

New Visual Effects and Unified UI

ColorOS 16.1 is also expected to bring a more unified system interface with added transparency and cleaner adjustments across menus and panels. A new Contour Glow effect is being added under Texture & Visual Effects. This brings richer edge lighting and refined highlights across the home screen, quick settings, and system interfaces. Users should also have the option to turn it off.

Smoother Animations

Animations and transitions are getting another round of improvements. Based on teasers, notifications move more fluidly, panels open more naturally, and the overall interface looks even smoother than before.

ColorOS 16.1 Rollout Timeline

ColorOS 16.1 is expected to debut first in China on April 21 with the Find X9 Ultra and Find X9s Pro. The India rollout is expected next month. After the initial release, the update is expected to expand to the rest of the Find X9 lineup, the Reno15 series, and older supported phones.
