Coronavirus pandemic is proving to be a massive blow to the economies globally. With Government calling for lockdowns as preventive measures, Smartphone manufacturers in India are also feeling the heat.
Three prominent smartphone manufacturers – Oppo, Vivo, and Samsung – have now halted manufacturing at their respective plants in India. The announcements comes after manufacturings hubs like Noida and Greater Noida were put under lockdown.
The news comes via ET telecom, Quotes a person familiar with the development. The report said, “The factories are shut till March 25…basis discussions with UP government officials, both Oppo and Vivo will take future steps.”

Samsung India too confirmed temporary production suspension at its Noida factory. The South Korean giant has also asked its employees who handle operations and R&D duties to work from home.
“At Samsung, the health and safety of our employees is our highest priority. As a measure to safeguard our employees and their families against Covid-19 and in compliance with directives from the Government, we have decided to currently suspend our manufacturing operations in Noida and have asked our employees at our sales, marketing and R&D offices across India to work from home,” a Samsung spokesperson said in a statement.

Like Samsung, Vivo has also asked its non-factory workforce to work from home from Monday onwards. Telecom networking giants Ericsson and Nokia, on the other hand, are working with 50 percent workforce. Both these companies have their production facilities in Chennai and Pune.
To delay Coronavirus from entering Stage 3, the government of India on Sunday announced some major steps including a lockdown of more than 75 districts across the country till March 31. With most of the economic activities put to almost a standstill, smartphone industry in India is also feeling the heat.
