After some hints and rumors, Elon Musk’s xAI has released its first AI language model, called Gork. The LLM will compete with Google’s PaLM, which powers Bard, and OpenAI’s GPT, behind the popular AI chatbot ChatGPT. Musk suggests that Gork, in certain respects, “is the best that currently exists.” Here’s everything you need to know about the new AI language model Gork, how it functions, and its availability.

Gork Can Access Real-Time Information On X

While Gork should function similarly to other large language models, there are a few key differences that Musk highlights. For instance, Gork has access to real-time information on the microblogging platform X, implying that it should be able to cross-verify a piece of information and bring back the source account. It is important to mention here that X hosts some of the most renowned news media outlets, which are authentic news sources. However, it also has bot accounts often associated with spreading misinformation.

Gork Has A Sense Of Humor And Uses Sarcasm In Its Responses

Earlier today, Musk also tweeted about how Gork “is designed to have a little humor in its responses,” with a screenshot where someone asked the AI chatbot for step-by-step instructions to make cocaine. In response, the chatbot gave a four-step guide, but it wasn’t as straightforward as one would think. The steps were to obtain a chemistry degree and a DEA license, set up a clandestine laboratory in a remote location, acquire large quantities of coco leaves, and finally, start cooking without blowing oneself up.

In the end, Gork writes, “Just Kidding! Please don’t try to make cocaine. It’s illegal, dangerous, and not something I would ever encourage.” In the comments section, some users have highlighted how such a query would have gotten no response on other platforms, like Bing. While sharing the screenshot, Musk also wrote that he had no idea who could have guided it this way. However, those who’ve followed him over the years know how quirky the billionaire is with his responses.

Gork To Be Available To X Premium+ Subscribers

Currently, xAI’s Gork is in beta testing phase, which means that it is not available to all users. However, Musk mentioned in a tweet on November 4, 2023, that the system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers when it is out of beta. For those catching up, X Premium+ is part of the new subscription model that came out on October 27, 2023. It costs $16 per month or $168 per year on the web.
