Popular gaming platform, Epic Games has made a huge announcement recently. Epic Games has confirmed that the Epic Games Store will be coming to Android and iOS devices by the end of 2024. Taking to their X handle, the true multi-platform store confirmed their plans to be available on Android and iOS devices by late 2024.

Epic Games Store: Revenue Structure for Android

Until now, Epic Games was only available on Windows and Mac devices as an alternative to platforms like Steam and GOG. Epic Games promises fair terms for developers and the same revenue split on Android as the PC. This means developers will keep 88% of their game’s revenue while Epic Store will get a 12% cut. Compared to Google Play Store, it is pretty less as Google takes almost 30% stake in apps and games. Although in 2021, Google reduced the 15% cut for developers on their first 1 million dollars in revenue, it will still be higher than what Epic is planning to take.

Games which will need in-app purchases would be applicable to be paid by the payment service provider. Other deals will include 0% Unreal Engine Royalties for games on Epic Store and more.

Epic Games on Apple Devices

As for Apple devices, Epic Games has been planning to launch a store for iPhones and iPads. This first became feasible with iOS 17.4 which came with support for 3rd-party app stores, and this is the reason Epic is now planning to come to iOS as well.

As the support for third-party apps is limited to European regions only for now due to regulations in other regions, Epic Games will be able to function on iOS devices only in regions, that don’t come under these regulations. It will be a while before Epic Games becomes available to its users around the world.

Things with Apple won’t be so simple for Epic Games, especially after the dispute that the two were involved in recently. Apple and Epic Games had a tiff over licensing agreements which led to temporary cancellation and reinstatement of Epic Games’ developer account by Apple. The dispute was about the availability of Fortnite on the App Store in Europe.

However, since it is all just a concept as of now, the actual lineup of titles might be different.
