Exclusive: Maruti Suzuki Partners with Qualcomm for Snapdragon Elite Automotive Chips

Having established a strong presence in the smartphone and wearables market, Qualcomm is now doubling down in the automotive sector with its chip solutions. At their Snapdragon Summit last month, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite platforms. Now the company is eyeing an automotive partnership with India’s biggest carmaker, Maruti.

According to our reliable source, Yogesh Brar, Qualcomm is joining forces with Maruti Suzuki India to integrate Snapdragon automotive chips into future Maruti vehicles. Smart cars, equipped with high-tech infotainment systems, parking assistance, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), are gaining popularity among Indian car buyers. Qualcomm recognizes this trend and is capitalizing on this demand to expand its chip solutions into India’s automotive industry.

Qualcomm & Maruti coming together

In addition to Maruti Suzuki, Qualcomm has already forged partnerships with other prominent Indian car makers, including Mahindra & Mahindra and Tata Motors. While the specifics of the Qualcomm-Maruti Suzuki partnership remain undisclosed, it is expected that Qualcomm will provide ADAS and infotainment solutions, similar to its collaborations with other Indian automakers.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Deigital Chassis

Qualcomm recently showcased significant enhancements to its Snapdragon Digital Chassis systems, introducing the Snapdragon Cockpit Elite and Snapdragon Ride Elite platforms catered for specific tasks. These platforms leverage the powerful Oryon CPU, Adreno GPU, and Hexagon NPU, bringing high-performance computing capabilities to vehicles. This technology enables the integration of over 40 multimodal sensors, including radars, LiDARs, cameras, and fingerprint sensors, further enhancing vehicle safety and autonomy.

Maruti e Vitara

The USP of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis system lies in its ability to provide a scalable feature set to modern cars. This can range from safety features like upto Level 3 automous driving, all the way to multi-display infotainment setups on high-end ICE cars and EVs. A version of this can be seen on the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Curvv. This will also extend to the upcoming XEV 9e and BE 6e EVs.
