Realme is done playing the budget flagship game. With the launch of the Realme GT8 Pro just hours away, the company has given us the first concrete confirmation of its pricing strategy, and it marks a significant departure for the brand.
In an exclusive conversation with Smartprix, Realme CMO Francis Wong confirmed that the GT8 Pro will launch with an effective India price below ₹70,000. This positioning puts it squarely in the crosshairs of the premium Android market, between its two main competitors.

“We’re targeting an effective price below ₹70,000,” said Francis Wong, CMO, Realme, told Smartprix in an exclusive chat. “It is likely less than OnePlus but more than iQOO.”
The “Premium” Gamble
This pricing strategy is a delicate dance between sticker price and what you actually pay. While the OnePlus 15 carries a Market Operating Price (MOP) north of ₹70,000, aggressive offers bring its effective price just under that psychological barrier.
Realme is playing the exact same game but aims to win on the margins. Wong indicates that while the GT8 Pro’s MOP will also sit above ₹70,000, the goal is to keep the Net Effective Price (NEP) lower than OnePlus. This creates a fierce “effective price” war in the sub-₹70k segment, a battlefield that is suddenly very crowded now that iQOO has confirmed its own flagship will jump into the ₹65,000–₹70,000 bracket.
Wong frankly acknowledged that this price hike might shock longtime fans used to Realme’s value-first roots. “Some may call it overpriced—that’s expected,” Wong told us. “But against peers launching at the same time, we believe GT8 Pro will look very compelling.”
Why the Price Hike? Realme argues the extra cost isn’t just inflation; it’s about a pivot to “serious” photography. The GT8 Pro isn’t just a performance phone; it’s a camera flagship built on a four-year partnership with Ricoh Imaging. Key upgrades include:
- Ricoh GR-Tuned Primary Camera: A massive shift for street photography purists.
- 200MP Periscope Telephoto: A segment-first high-resolution zoom lens.
- Next-Gen ISP: Custom imaging silicon (likely the Hyper Vision AI system) to handle the massive data stream.
“Our biggest strength is on the camera front… This is what can elevate Realme into a more premium tier,” Wong explained.
