The first concrete details about Samsung’s foldable smartphone strategy for 2026 have begun to emerge. New model numbers and code names detected in the GSMA IMEI database indicate that the tech giant is continuing its testing processes for the next generation of devices. These leaks are not just numbers; they also provide important clues about the future direction of foldable screen technology.

Meet the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8!

Documents that have surfaced indicate that Samsung is working on three new models. The most notable among these are the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8, which are expected to be the flagship models of the series. According to information in the GSMA database, the devices have been registered under the model numbers SM-F976U and SM-F776U. These registrations confirm that the devices underwent internal testing long before their commercial names were finalized.

The letter “U” at the end of the model numbers indicates that these devices are variants designed for the US market. Samsung typically uses the suffix “B” for its global models, ‘N’ for its South Korean models, and “U/U1” for its US market models. This detail allows us to understand that the devices have already entered network testing and regional optimization processes for the US market. Therefore, we can say that these leaked data represent the first official steps on the path to the final versions of the devices that will reach end users.

The Secret of codenames: Q8 and B8

Samsung always follows a specific alphabetical order when developing its foldable devices. The Galaxy Z Fold series is referred to by the codename “Q,” while the Galaxy Z Flip series is referred to by the codename “B.” For example, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has the codename “Q7,” and the Galaxy Z Flip 7 has the codename “B7.” The Q8 and B8 codenames spotted in the database directly point to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8. This naming tradition shows that Samsung is continuing its product cycle without interruption and intends to raise the hardware bar one step higher each year.

Mysterious Foldable Fold Model: H8

Another point that stands out in the leaks is the presence of a second Fold device with the model number SM-F971U and the codename “H8”. This mysterious Fold device, added to Samsung’s traditional duo, shows that the company could open a new category in the foldable form factor. Although the specifications of this model are not yet fully known, it’s clear that Samsung is pursuing a strategy to dominate the market with three different foldable models in 2026.

Launch Expectations and Results

All these leaks seem to align with Samsung’s traditional “Unpacked” schedule. The devices are expected to be officially unveiled between July and August 2026. These early IMEI registrations are proof that the engineering processes are progressing as planned.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 will not merely be updates to existing models; they will also represent an era in which foldable screen technology has truly matured. Next-generation processors, more durable materials, and deeply integrated AI features will keep these devices at the top of the smartphone market.

2026 could be a “golden age” for Samsung in foldable technologies. Additionally, the mysterious Fold model is known to be designed to compete with Apple’s new foldable model. In short, the official launch of the 2 Fold and 1 Flip models is expected in 2026.
