TL; DR

  • vivo’s exclusive sub-brand JOVI confirmed for 2025 Brazil launch, focusing on smartphones, tablets, and wearables.
  • JOVI will rebrand vivo Mobile products as the name ‘Vivo’ has already been trademarked there by the telecommunications company, Telefônica Brasil.
  • JOVI is basically vivo for Brazil, but with a different name. The first devices that will launch include: JOVI V50, V50 Lite 5G, and Y39 5G.

Earlier, we exclusively revealed that vivo is launching a new brand called JOVI, with three devices already in the pipeline—JOVI V50, JOVI V50 Lite 5G, and JOVI Y39 5G. Now, in another exclusive, we’ve found a job listing that confirms JOVI is gearing up for its launch in 2025.

This job listing further strengthens the fact that JOVI (JOVI Mobile, officially) will be an exclusive brand of vivo Mobile, focused entirely on the Brazilian market. The About section of JOVI Mobile, that we found, alongside the job listing, gives a detailed overview of the brand’s vision, products, and the launch timeline.

Why JOVI?

vivo’s decision to rebrand its phones in Brazil as JOVI is due to legal trademark issues. In Brazil, the ‘Vivo’ trademark is already owned by Telefónica Brasil, which means vivo Mobile can’t use that name for their products there.

To work around this, vivo Mobile has chosen JOVI as a new branding for their devices in Brazil. The change is similar to what Samsung did in Japan, where it only uses the Galaxy branding instead of the Samsung name.

Despite the rebranding, the products, software, and everything else will be identical to the vivo products available in other markets. A key clue supporting this is that the model numbers for the JOVI V50 and vivo V50 are exactly the same, meaning that these are essentially the same devices under different names.

JOVI Mobile’s Product Categories

Just like the parent brand vivo, JOVI will also focus on smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and other tech products and accessories, “bringing vivo’s technological expertise to Brazil.” The smartphones we leaked earlier—JOVI V50, JOVI V50 Lite 5G, and JOVI Y39 5G—are expected to headline the launch.

Further, the About section also says that JOVI’s products will be backed by vivo’s extensive R&D network, focusing on technologies such as 5G, AI, imaging systems, and more. It also states that vivo has 500 million users around the globe.

Launch Timeline and Market

The launch is officially scheduled for 2025 (exact date unknown), with Brazil being the sole focus. Also, it seems highly unlikely that JOVI will expand beyond Brazil, since this name is a result of trademark issues specific to Brazil. The bottom line is that JOVI will mark vivo’s entry into the Brazilian market.
