TL; DR
- According to the Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, Ouga Lab (the research and development wing that oversees Oppo and OnePlus) is working on an 8,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery.
- The tipster also mentions how the 8,000 mAh battery could be charged at around 80W.
In December, we reported how Chinese smartphone manufacturers like Xiaomi and OnePlus are working on smartphones with a 7,000 mAh battery. Now, a renowned tipster has shared some details about Oppo and OnePlus working on an even larger smartphone battery.
Oppo And OnePlus Are Working On Massive Smartphone Batteries

According to the Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, Ouga Lab (the research and development wing that oversees Oppo and OnePlus) is working on an 8,000 mAh silicon-carbon battery.
Given that the tipster has a solid track record and that current-age flagships already feature over 6,000 mAh battery cells, it seems plausible that the Chinese manufacturers could be working on a massive 8,000 mAh battery.

The Battery Could Support 80W Wired Charging Speed

The tipster also mentions how the 8,000 mAh battery could be charged at around 80W. Further, the new battery could contain 15% silicon content, higher than 6% on the OnePlus Ace 3 Pro. At launch, the handset claimed to have the highest silicon content on a smartphone battery.
While an 8,000 mAh battery sounds exciting, it isn’t clear whether it will actually be featured in a consumer-grade smartphone. In 2025, manufacturers are focussing on making slimmer phones, and a bigger-than-usual silicon carbide battery might not exactly align with that agenda.

Will Customers Trade Off Some Millimeters Of Thickness For Better Battery Life?
However, given that silicon-carbon batteries are much denser than regular lithium-ion batteries, the manufacturers could somehow equip a slightly thicker smartphone (as thick as the 2023 flagships) with an 8,000 mAh battery. In our opinion, consumers would love to trade some thickness for a significant upgrade in the battery life.
If the tests are successful, we might see an 8,000 mAh battery on a future Oppo or OnePlus smartphone, possibly the Find X9 series or the OnePlus 14. More details about the battery should surface on the internet in the coming days.
