With a new Exynos 1580 SoC and a Super AMOLED display, the Galaxy A56 5G is Samsung’s newest mid-range smartphone. However, given how the company has priced the phone, it directly competes with the OnePlus 13R (review). Even though both phones follow a similar ideology (providing flagship-like features and build at a relatively affordable price), there are a lot of significant differences that one should know about before making a purchase.

Materials
Samsung has used premium materials on the Galaxy A56 5G, including Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front/back and a brushed aluminum frame on the sides.
In comparison, the OnePlus 13R ships with Gorilla Glass 7i on the front, a regular glass back, and an aluminum frame.

Design
In terms of looks, the Galaxy A56 5G follows the same design language as the company’s flagship smartphones. It features a punch-hole screen with symmetrical bezels on the front, a premium aluminum frame on the sides, and a vertically stacked triple-camera array on the back.
The power and volume buttons on the right frame are situated on a raised platform (for better reach).
The OnePlus 13R also borrows its key design elements from the flagship OnePlus 13. It features a punch-hole screen, symmetrical bezels, and a circular camera array on the back panel. While the power/volume buttons are on the right panel, there’s a mute switch on the left.
From the images, it looks like the OnePlus 13R has slightly thinner bezels than the Galaxy A56 5G.

IP Rating

Galaxy A56 5G vs. OnePlus 13R 5G: Display
The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G features a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen that has a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels (385 ppi) and supports a peak refresh rate of 120Hz. Regarding peak brightness, the phone can achieve up to 1,900 nits of peak brightness (with 1,200 nits in the high-brightness mode).
The OnePlus 13R, on the other hand, has a slightly bigger 6.78-inch AMOLED screen with a higher resolution of 2780 x 1264 pixels (450 ppi). With LTPO 4.1 technology, the screen supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. In the high-brightness mode, the screen can achieve 1,600 nits, while the local peak brightness can go up to 4,500 nits.
Though both phones have a stereo speaker setup, the OnePlus 13R should offer a better visual experience.
Galaxy A56 5G vs. OnePlus 13R 5G: Performance
Out of the box, the Galaxy A56 5G runs on Samsung’s new Exynos 1580 (4nm) SoC. The chipset offers one 2.9GHz performance core, three 2.6GHz balanced cores, and four 1.9GHz efficient cores. Then there’s the Xclipse 540 GPU, up to 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.
Although fresh benchmark scores aren’t available, the Galaxy A56 5G appeared on the GeekBench 6 database a few months ago. It scored around 1350/3830 points in the single and multi-core CPU performance test. This seems to be an upgrade over the 1180/3530 points scored by the Galaxy A36 5G.
The OnePlus 13R ships with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC (4nm) SoC comprising a 3.3GHz prime core, three 3.2GHz performance cores, and two 2.3GHz efficient cores. The CPU runs alongside an Adreno 750 GPU, up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 provides flagship performance, which is evident in its 2190/6550 score in the GeekBench 6 CPU performance test. Hence, between the Galaxy A56 5G and the OnePlus 13R, the latter provides a better performance, making it ideal for someone who likes to play video games or edit videos on their smartphone.

Galaxy A56 5G vs. OnePlus 13R 5G: Software
The Galaxy A56 5G packs One UI 7.0 based on Android 15. Samsung also markets the phone to feature “Awesome Intelligence,” which refers to features like Circle to Search, Object Eraser, Edit Suggestion, Auto Trim in Gallery, Best Face, and AI Select.
Further, Samsung has promised to provide up to six years of operating system and security updates, which is an excellent selling point for those concerned about longevity.
In contrast, the OnePlus 13R runs on OxygenOS 15 (based on Android 15). The device offers features like Circle to Search, AI Notes, Pass Scan, Magic Compose, AI Detail Boost, AI Unblur, AI Easer, and AI Reflection Eraser. In terms of software support, though, the phone doesn’t hold up as well as the Galaxy A56 5G.
OnePlus will provide four years of major operating system updates and six years of security patches.

The Galaxy A56 5G features a 5,000 mAh battery that supports 45W wired charging. Samsung claims that the battery can reach 100% in 68 minutes.
The OnePlus 13R comes with a 6,000 mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging (100% in around 54 minutes). Not only should the phone provide a longer battery life, it should also charge faster when compared to the Galaxy A56 5G.

The Galaxy A56 5G offers a premium build, a Super AMOLED screen, a capable chipset, One UI 7.0, six years of operating system upgrades, and a large battery. However, considering its specifications, the phone commands a slightly premium price. If you’re familiar with One UI and wish to switch to a mid-range Samsung smartphone, the Galaxy A56 5G is a decent package.
The OnePlus 13R has a brighter screen, a significantly more powerful processor (resulting in better day-to-day and gaming performance), a telephoto camera, and a massive 6,000 mAh battery that supports 80W wired charging. Hence, if raw performance is your priority, go with the OnePlus 13R.
It is important to mention that the OnePlus 13R comes with an 80W charger and a protective case in the box, something that the Galaxy A56 5G doesn’t.
