Available on a wide variety of devices like computers, tablets, and smartphones, Gemini has become a popular name in the industry. The AI-based chatbot allows users to understand complicated topics, create a vacation itinerary, summarize long emails, and whatnot.
As we move toward the end of the year, Google might be planning something big for its AI chatbot, an upgraded version that goes by the name “Gemini 2.0.” A new report suggests that Google’s next-generation AI chatbot could hit markets in as long as two months.

Gemini 2.0 Could Be Here By December

According to a report by The Verge, Google could launch the Gemini 2.0 in December. Apparently, the company is eyeing the last month of the year to announce and release the new and improved version of Gemini.
Even though the model doesn’t offer the performance gains that Google was hoping for, it is normal for large language models, and that seems to be enough for Google, at least for the time being.

Google Has Released Multiple Gemini Iterations Over The Last Year
In December 2023, Google announced the Gemini 1.0 and the Gemini 1.0 Pro. These models marked the company’s foray into the language model market. Two months later (in February 2024), Google launched Gemini 1.5 with an expanded context window.
At the Google I/O 2024 conference held in May, the company revealed Gemini 1.5, followed by a new Gemini 1.5 Pro version in September. Remember Project Astra, Google’s multimodal AI assistant showcased at the I/O? That is also bound to launch sometime soon.
There’s a good chance that Google will unveil the Gemini 2.0 for developers and users at the same time. However, since the company hasn’t confirmed anything yet, readers should take this with a pinch of salt.
While the report also mentioned OpenAI’s plans to release a product codenamed “Orion” this year, the company has denied the claim in a statement to Tech Crunch. Anyway, we’re looking forward to Google following a yearly cycle for Gemini and releasing a new update this December.
