Google has launched the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker designed to sit between the Pixel Watch 5 smartwatch and the screenless Fitbit Air. The wearable combines a display, advanced health tracking features and AI-powered fitness insights in a slim design

Launched in the US for now, the new fitness tracker goes on sale starting October 27.

Google Fitbit Edge: Design and display

The Fitbit Edge features a pill-shape, and gets an OLED touchscreen housed in an aluminium frame. According to Google, the display offers 46% more viewing area than the Fitbit Charge 6. The tracker measures 11.5mm in thickness and features a physical side button for quick access to workout controls, which also comes into play for taking ECG measurements.

It comes in four colour options: Obsidian, Fog, Olive and Canyon. The tracker also supports interchangeable straps and carries IP68 and 5ATM ratings for dust and water resistance.

Google Fitbit Edge: Health and fitness features

The new Fitbit tracker comes with built-in GPS, an altimeter, an optical heart rate sensor, an ECG sensor and blood oxygen monitoring. It also tracks sleep, skin temperature and recovery metrics.

Users can track more than 50 workout types directly from the device. Its activity recognition system can automatically identify up to 100 activities, even when users forget to start a workout manually.

The Fitbit Edge also supports Google Maps navigation, music controls and phone notifications. However, it lacks NFC, meaning users cannot make contactless payments through Google Wallet. It also runs Fitbit software rather than the full Wear OS experience found on the Pixel Watch series.

Google claims the Fitbit Edge can last up to seven days on a single charge. Enabling the always-on display reduces battery life to around two days. The company also says a five-minute charge can provide up to a day’s worth of battery life.

Google Fitbit Edge: Price and availabilty

The Fitbit Edge is available for pre-order at $179.99 (approximately ₹15,000), while the Stephen Curry Special Edition costs $219.99 (approximately ₹18,300). Buyers will also receive three months of Google Health Premium, which unlocks additional personalised health insights and coaching features.
