After rolling the Gemini-powered side panel for its apps, Google is now rolling another AI-based feature. Called “Summarize this email,” the feature helps users summarize multi-thread emails. According to a report by 9To5Google, the feature appears as a button below the subject line.

While the publication states that the feature is rolling out to more users, it only appears in email threads that have more than two responses. Primarily, the “Summarize this email” feature helps users create a summary of an ongoing conversation, helping them mention the key points in an outgoing email or incorporating a detail in their response.

Once users tap the button, the feature takes a couple of seconds to go through the text and come up with the bullet points. While the UI appears from the bottom of the screen (similar to Google Assistant), users can expand it if required. Last but not least, users can rate the summary generated by the feature as well.

In comparison, the Gemini-powered side panel can not only generate summaries but also suggest responses to an email, help draft an email, and respond to specific questions that are related to the contents of the email thread. Like the side panel, Summarize this email should also be available to Gemini Business and Enterprise add-ons, Gemini Education and Education premium add-on, and Google One AI Premium customers.
