Even though Google Maps maintains a relatively uniform user experience on its apps across iOS and Android, a few features are exclusive to the operating systems. For instance, weather overlays on Google Maps have been available for iPhone users for several years. However, now, the feature has started to roll out for Android users on a broader scale.

Here’s How The Android App Shows Temperature And AQI Values

Google Maps for Android shows a small rectangular box under the search bar and the filters. It shows the temperature and the air quality index of the area. The box can also indicate rain, snow, or any other weather update that might apply to the area on the screen.

The 9To5Google report mentions that tapping on the rectangular box opens up a menu that shows more weather-related information, such as the current temperature, “Feels like” temperature values, and other details, including a 12-hour forecast for the area. Similarly, tapping the air quality index opens up a more detailed overview.

Check Weather Updates For An Area On The Go

The weather box appears in areas where the related information is available. It appears until the user explores the map and goes away on selecting something. This could be a very useful feature, especially for users who like to check a destination’s weather and AQI conditions before visiting it.

The feature started rolling out to Android users recently, and now, it is available to a wider user base. If you’re not seeing it yet, force the Google Maps app to stop through the app drawer and open it again. Even though the feature is on a wider rollout, it might take a few days to be available for everyone.
