TL; DR
- When it comes to the screen, the Pixel 10a may offer a brighter display compared to its predecessor, but only in terms of peak brightness.
- Unlike all the other Pixel A models in the past, the Pixel 10a won’t use the Tensor G5 SoC that debuted with the Pixel 10 series.
- Given that the phone will be based on an older chipset, it may not support the new Magic Cue feature, which runs entirely on-device on the Pixel 10 series.
A hot minute after the Pixel 10’s launch, the internet is already chatting about the Pixel 10a, the A-series adaptation of the flagship series. While the handset won’t break cover for another five to six months (as the Pixel 9a debuted in March 2025), it might not be worth waiting for, at least that is what the current leak suggests.

Display

When it comes to the screen, the Pixel 10a may offer a brighter display compared to its predecessor, but only in terms of peak brightness. While the Pixel 9a (review) is capable of achieving 2,000 nits of peak brightness, the Pixel 10 could potentially bump it up to 2,200 nits.
Tensor G4 Instead Of Tensor G5
According to Mystic Leaks on Telegram, the Pixel 10a, unlike all the other Pixel A models in the past, won’t use the Tensor G5 SoC that debuted with the Pixel 10 series. Instead, the Pixel 10 could borrow the Tensor G4 SoC from the Pixel 9 series.
This could be a major letdown for the Pixel A-series fans. The Tensor G5, when compared to the Tensor G4, provides a significant performance bump (both in single-core and multi-core performance). While its GPU performs similarly to the Tensor G4’s, the TPU is more than twice as fast, which is beneficial for on-device Gemini Nano processing.

Magic Cue Might Not Be Coming To Pixel 9 After All

Given that the phone will be based on an older chipset, it may not support the new Magic Cue feature, which runs entirely on-device on the Pixel 10 series. This could also mean that the Pixel 9 series won’t receive the feature, i.e., it will remain exclusive on the Pixel 10.
All these upgrades, when combined, enhance the user experience on the Pixel 10 series; however, unfortunately, the Pixel 10a may not receive them (or at least that’s what it seems). Another feature that the A-series handset won’t be getting is the telephoto camera added to the baseline Pixel 10.
No Upgrade To UFS 4.0 Storage Either
In addition, the Pixel 10a will retain UFS 3.1 storage, unlike the Pixel 10, which utilizes UFS 4.0 storage on models with 256GB (and higher) storage capacities. Currently, the Pixel 9a costs around Rs. 50,000, and most smartphones at this price point, including upper mid-ranger models from Chinese manufacturers, have already shifted to UFS 4.0 storage.

Google Pixel 10a Roundup: Price
Last but not least, the Pixel 10 could launch around the same price as the Pixel 9a. In India, the device launched at Rs. 49,999 for the sole 256GB variant, while in the United States, the phone came out at $499 for the 128GB variant and $599 for the 256GB model.
