We have been hearing about the upcoming Google Pixel 7a a lot. Part of the Google 7 series, the 7a is an ‘A-series’ model from Google which ideally waters down a few features to reach affordable pricing. Turns out, Google Pixel 7a might do things differently as there are some premium features that it will bring as opposed to the previous generations.

Google Pixel 7a to bring a slew of premium features

According to developer Kuba Wojciechowski who initially helped discover there’s a Pixel 7a, there’s a lot to discuss therein. Codenamed Pixel Lynx, the phone was earlier rumored to be either Pixel Mini or Ultra, however, the folks at 9to5Google pointed out that it’s Pixel 7a indeed.

Kuba’s findings further reveal that he got his hands on camera drivers concerning Lynx which is “Pixel 22 Mid-range” which is again a reference to its mid-range category given the fact that Pixel 22 Premium is used for Pixel 7 and 7 Pro.

Although Kuba’s earlier findings revealed that Lynx will have a triple rear camera setup, it seems like Google has changed the setup. It has removed reference to GN1 and instead, the rear camera has dual sensors only i.e. “l10_wide” (IMX787) and “l10_UW” (IMX712). For context, the IMX787 ISP is better than the last-gen IMX363 which means Pixel 7a will be summoned to have one of the best in terms of camera quality.

Display Tech, Wireless Charging, and More Upgrades

If that’s not all, the upcoming Pixel 7a is likely to bring 5W of wireless charging. This was discovered by Kuba as well where he found snippets of code in Android 13 QPR beta 1 mentioned “WCL” which stands for wireless charging.

Moving on, Google has likely replaced the Broadcom BCM4389 WiFi/BT modem with Qualcomm WCN6740. The upgrade will bring support to WiFi 6E as well apart from Bluetooth.

If you think that’s all, you are wildly mistaken. The Google Pixel 7a is likely to get a 90Hz 1080p panel from the South Korean giant Samsung Display. It is the nicest upgrade over the predecessor and we cannot deny it. The pricing for Pixel 7a is unknown although if at all Google can furnish all the features mentioned above in an affordable pricing model (i.e. $449 MSRP as per Kuba), Pixel 7a will be a chic deal to go for especially when you get Google’s Android software like no others.
