Remember the Pixel 8 launch back in October 2023 or the Pixel 7 launch in October 2022? For the longest time, the Alphabet-owned company has held its Pixel hardware event, where it unveils the latest smartphones, in the month of October. However, that seems to be changing this year, as the company has sent out invites for a surprise Made by Google event in August 2024.

Pixel Launch Is Arriving Early

Google Pixel August launch event

Google has sent invites to certain publications and media around the world for its upcoming in-person event on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. The event will take place in California, where the company will unveil “the best of Google AI, Android software, and the Pixel portfolio of devices.” According to the invitation, the keynote begins at 10:00 AM PT or 10:30 PM IST.

What To Expect From The Made By Google August Event?

Pixel 9 And Pixel Watch 3

At this point, it isn’t difficult to speculate what the company could reveal at the Made by Google launch event in August. For months, we’ve seen and heard leaks/rumors about the Pixel 9 series, which apparently will feature a new Pixel 9 Pro XL variant this year. Further, the Pixel Watch 3 could accompany the new smartphones. In addition to the Pixel 9 and the Google Watch 3, the company could also launch Android 15 at the event.

If Google launches the Pixel 9 series in August, it will also want to make the Pixel Fold 2 available in the global markets to compete with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 (exclusive renders) and the Vivo X Fold3 Pro (review). Earlier this year, SmartPrix exclusively leaked some high-quality 5K renders of the Pixel Fold 2, which revealed a new camera module and other hardware changes.

Advancements In Google AI

Last but not least, Google could showcase all the new AI-based features that should be available on the Pixel 9 series and later expand to the older Pixel smartphones, like the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 7.

Why Did Google Prepone The Pixel 9?

Yes, Google has sent out invites for an unprecedented launch event, but there are two things that aren’t usual about it. First, the company has postponed the launch of the next-generation Pixel products by almost two months, a significant time in a product’s lifecycle. Second, the company has sent out invites about one and a half months before the event.

It could be an attempt to keep up the hype around the upcoming devices, but didn’t it just drop the Pixel 8a? Wouldn’t launching the Pixel 9 series too early would take away from the sales of the company’s affordable Pixel? Let us know what you think in the comments section, and we’ll see you in our next post about the Google Pixel lineup.
