Later this year, Google, the Alphabet-owned company, will unveil its next-generation smartphone series: the Pixel 9. According to recent reports, the series will consist of two smartphones, the Google Pixel 9 and the Pixel 9 Pro. There could be a Pixel 9 Pro XL as well, but we have very little information about it. Recently, the former visited one of the most popular benchmarking platforms, Geekbench, revealing several details about its processor.

Google Pixel 9’s Geekbench Listing Reveals Details About The Tensor G3 SoC

Pixel 9 geekbench score

The Google Pixel 9 visited Geekbench on June 14, 2024. In the listing, the phone’s model ID is mentioned, along with other details. For instance, the phone is powered by a processor with eight cores. One of the eight cores is clocked at 3.10GHz, three at 2.60GHz, and four at 1.95GHz. According to several reports, this is the Tensor G4 SoC we’ve been talking about since the very first rumors of the Pixel 9 series surfaced online.

Tensor G4 Vs. Tensor G3: How Do The Geekbench Scores Compare

Besides, the model that took the test had 8GB of RAM. Now, let’s move on to the most interesting detail shared by the listing – benchmark scores. Apparently, the Pixel 9 with Tensor G4 SoC scores 1,653 points in the single-core test and 3,313 points in the multi-core Geekbench test. These scores, when compared with those of the Pixel 8, look promising.

The Google Pixel 8, with its Tensor G3 SoC, scored around 1,045 points in the single-core and 3,294 points in the multi-core test. This indicates that the Pixel 9 will offer a 60 percent improvement in the single-core score; the multi-core score remains similar. In other words, the Tensor G4 should handle light apps easily, while the heavily threaded apps will run with the same efficiency as that on the Tensor G3 SoC.

When compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC on the Galaxy S24 Ultra (review), however, the Tensor G4 still has a lot of catching up. For starters, the Qualcomm chip cores around 2,300 points on the single core and 7,249 points on the multi-core Geekbench test.

That’s not as surprising, given that Tensor chips haven’t focussed on raw performance as much as on enabling everyday users to achieve their tasks without hassle and facilitate several AI-based features. Besides improving single-core performance, we expect the Tensor G4 to be more efficient than its predecessors. More details about the processor should surface on the internet in the coming days.
