TL; DR
  • Though Pixel 9a could feature a plastic back, it should have an aluminum frame (with the USB-C port, SIM tray, and primary speaker located at the bottom).
  • As mentioned in the video, the Pixel 9a might come with a 6.3-inch OLED screen with support for up to 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2424 x 1080 pixels.
  • The phone should run on Android 15 out of the box and might get seven years of software updates. Besides the Tensor G4 SoC, the phone could feature 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Ahead of its anticipated launch, the Pixel 9a has appeared in a 10-minute-long unboxing video on YouTube. The video covers nearly all the aspects of the smartphone, including its screen, processor, cameras, battery, and the new subtle design language that the device could follow.

Since the phone looks exactly like the early renders, the video strengthens the credibility of those leaks and provides a detailed early look at the Google Pixel 9a. Check out the pictures and the specifications below.

According to the YouTube video titled “Exclusive Google Pixel 9a Unboxing with Benchmark” posted by Sahil Karoul, the upcoming A-series handset from Google will feature the Tensor G4 SoC (previously seen on the flagship Pixel 9 models).

Design

The YouTuber unboxed the smartphone, showcasing the contents in the box, including a Type-C to Type-C cable, a SIM ejector tool, and the phone in a light purple shade. Though the phone could feature a plastic back, it should have an aluminum frame (with the USB-C port, SIM tray, and primary speaker located at the bottom).

Screen

As mentioned in the video, the Pixel 9a might come with a 6.3-inch OLED screen with support for up to 120Hz refresh rate, a resolution of 2424 x 1080 pixels, and a peak brightness of 2,700 nits. While the screen features Gorilla Glass 3 protection, it also supports HDR10+ video format. However, the bezels around the screen appear to be among the thickest on a smartphone in 2025.

Performance and Operating System

The phone should run on Android 15 out of the box and might get seven years of software updates. Besides the Tensor G4 SoC, the phone could feature 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Like its predecessor, the Pixel 9a should be available in two storage variants: 128GB and 256GB.

On AnTuTu 10, the phone scores 1.049,844 points, while on GeekBench 6, the phone scores 1530/3344 points in the single/multi-core performance test. For those wondering about the phone’s gaming performance, the phone supports Extreme frame rate (60 fps) at HDR graphic setting in PUBG Mobile.

Flushed Camera Cutout

One key change in the design of the Pixel 9a is the flushed camera system. Until Pixel 9, Google used a horizontal camera visor that protruded from the back panel. However, with the Pixel 9a, the years-long love of a dedicated camera island might come to an end. Anyway, the phone could ship with a 48MP primary camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera. On the front, buyers could get a 13MP selfie shooter.

Battery Capacity

Additional features of the smartphone include an in-display fingerprint scanner and a 5,100 mAh battery that supports 33W wired charging. There’s also support for wireless charging, but it is limited to 7.5W.

Google Pixel 9a Pricing (Leaked)

According to listings on global e-commerce platforms, the baseline Pixel 9a (with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage) could come with a price tag of around Rs. 55,000. This seems to be more than the Pixel 8a’s launch price (Rs. 52,999).

Given that the websites will start shipping the phone in 10 to 14 days, Google might unveil the phone on its rumored launch date: March 19, 2025. While the pre-orders could begin from the day itself, the Pixel 9a should be available to purchase from the last week of March or the first week of April.
