After endless reports and releases, Google is finally rolling out separate volume sliders for ringtones and notifications for its Pixel devices. Expected to be a part of Android 13 QPR3 or Android 14, the feature will automatically separate the two volume sliders that were merged for at least two years.

According to the Google Issue Tracker, the Android maker has tagged the feature request as ‘fixed’ meaning it will finally roll out soon. The folks at 9to5Google spotted an ADB command on Android 13 QPR2 Beta 1 in December that would enable users to separate the two volume rockers. Up till this point, those who want to lower the ringtone volume would have to face reduced notification volume as well and vice versa.

With the latest update in mind, Pixel users will soon get a different ringtone and volume sliders that they can use independently. The ADB command mentioned below can be invoked to get the separate volume rocker until the official update isn’t available.
adb shell device_config put systemui volume_separate_notification true

Coming back to the official release, it is expected to be a part of stable Android QRP3 or Android 14. It was actually expected to come with QPR2 in March which obviously didn’t materialize. The stable QRP3 is slated to make it to the public in June. Note that the feature, albeit available via ADB command, isn’t available on Android 13 QPR3 Beta 3 or 14 Beta 1.1 at the time of writing this.
