Google has announced a host of new upgrades and features during its recent ‘Search On’ Event. These new features mostly make Google Search an even more visually enriching experience and help users to get what they need even faster.

“We are going far beyond the search box to create search experiences that work more like our minds- that is as multidimensional as people. As we enter this new era of search, you’ll be able to find exactly what you are looking for by combining images, sounds, text, and speech. We call this making Search more natural and intuitive,” said Prabhakar Raghavan, Google SVP of Search during his keynote.

Let us have a look at what all will be new with Google

1. Multi search Feature overhauled

This multi-search feature was launched by Google earlier this year and now it is expanding with 70 more languages added within the next few months. This feature will now let you search for multiple things at the same time by combining both images and text. The feature can be used in combination with Google Lens as users will then be able to take a picture of an item and then use the phrase near me to find it nearby. This will help users connect with local businesses. The feature will start rolling out in the US this fall.

“This is made possible by an in-depth understanding of local phrases and product inventory informed by millions of images and reviews on the web.”

2. Better Google Translations

Google is improving the way translations will be shown over an image. With the new feature, Google will be able to blend translated text into complex images, so it looks and feels much more natural. The translated text will look more seamless and a part of the original image, instead of standing out. Google will use generative adversarial networks to ensure this experience. The feature will roll out this year itself.

3. Improved iOS Application

Users will be able to make shortcuts right under the search bar on the iOS app. This will help them shop using their screenshots, translate any text with their camera, find a song, and more.

4. Google search visually enriched

It is the biggest update that Google will receive. The Google Search is getting more visually enriching as users browsing for information about a place or a topic will be benefitted. For example, when searching for a city in Mexico, the results will also show videos, images, and other information about the place in the first set of results itself. You will not have to open multiple tabs when you need more information.

In the coming months, Google Search will give even more relevant information. As a user begins to type in a question, Google will give keyword or topic options to help users draft their questions. The search result will show content from creators on the web that is relevant. The new feature is all set to roll out in the upcoming months.

Searching for food will also get more enriching. Whenever you search for a dish or an item at a restaurant, Google will show visually richer results, including photos of the dish. Digital menus are also increasing. Shopping results will also get tweaked. 3D view of items will be available and a complete look will be shown.

5. Google Maps

Google Maps is getting new features too. Users will be able to check the Neighbourhood Vibe meaning figure out the places to eat, the places to visit, etc, in a particular locality. This will help tourists know the place better. The immersive view feature is expanding as well, which will let users see 250 photorealistic aerial views of global landmarks that span everything from Tokyo Tower to Acropolis. The immersive view will roll out in the coming months in Los Angeles, London, New York, and Tokyo.

Live View feature will help users find a place around them, it could be a market or a store while they are walking around. The eco-friendly routing feature is also expanding.
