We’ve been testing the Haier 1.6 Ton 5-Star AI Smart Gravity Series ACHSU19GMZAIM5BN-INV as the temperatures have started creeping up. Here’s our full review—real-world performance, cooling speed, noise levels, smart features, and whether this is the best smart AC for Indian homes in 2025.

Boasting a 5.46kW cooling capacity, the Gravity series has a primary objective to effectively counter the intense Indian summer heat. In my real-world tests, it consistently delivered on this promise.  

Typically, consumers don’t measure their room size accurately when purchasing an AC. While not ideal, this guesswork is a common practice. To assess its cooling capability in a roughly 220 square feet living room, I installed the Haier Gravity Heavy Duty 1.6 Ton AC (HSU19G-MZAIM5BN-INV) to determine how quickly it could cool the space. At the start of my test, the ambient temperature hovered between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius, while the outdoor temperature reached 41 degrees Celsius. I activated Cool Mode with the Strong feature enabled. The AC reduced the room temperature to 25 degrees Celsius in approximately 9-10 minutes.

Compared to my parents’ LG AC, which struggled to cool a smaller room in 15 minutes using Turbo Mode, my cousin’s 2024 Daikin Smart AC took 10 minutes under similar circumstances. This performance is notably similar to Daikin and better than LG, Panasonic, and Samsung WindFree, even when those units operated at higher fan speeds. Overall, I found its cooling performance impressive.

It is also worth pointing out that Haier claims that its Gravity Heavy Duty AC is rated to perform for up to 60°C, where are most of the competition including Panasonic (55°C), Daikin (55°C), LG (55°C)and Samsung (58°C) making it future-proof for rising Indian temperatures.

Let’s start with the aesthetics. The “Morning Mist” colorway is subtle but premium, tastefully muted without trying too hard. It’s not ultra-compact like the Panasonic CS/CU-NU18AKY5WX (104 cm wide), but slightly more substantial at 102 cm width and 24 cm depth. It fit comfortably in my 176-square-foot living room, which has an attached open kitchen that means I can use test it’s for 1.6-ton capacity to the limits.

There’s also a discreet yet visible LED display on the front that shows temperature and status indicators. If you’re sensitive to light at night, there’s a dedicated “Light” button on the remote to turn it off.

The outdoor unit complements the indoor aesthetics with a sleek grille design and reinforced plastic outlet. More importantly, it houses aluminium fins and 100% grooved copper piping, which Haier claims improves heat exchange efficiency by 30-50%—translating into faster cooling and longer compressor life.

In a comparison against rivals like the Samsung WindFree AR60F19D1ZW and LG US-Q19MWZE, the Haier unit has a slightly larger outdoor footprint (86 x 55 x 35 cm) but makes up for it with better anti-corrosion treatment thanks to its Super Anti-Corrosive Coating. However, the one noticeable miss is the lack of a backlit display, which makes it a bit tricky to use in the dark. Thankfully, since this is a smart AC, you can easily control it remotely through the HaiSmart app, offering even more flexibility and convenience.

In contrast, apps like Samsung’s SmartThings — while visually fancier — often feel bloated for simple tasks like scheduling or filter-cleaning alerts. Remote control via Wi-Fi was seamless. Whether I was adjusting the temperature from my bed or switching off the AC remotely when stuck in traffic, the app never glitched once.

The AI Climate Control that you can turn on from the app allows the AC to learn your comfort preferences and adjust dynamically. For instance, it automatically gradually adjust the temperature at night, so I didn’t wake up sweaty or feeling excessively cold. When it comes to energy efficiency, the Haier’s 5 Star BEE rating and Dual DC Inverter technology do serious saving. Instead of shutting on and off like older non-inverter ACs (wasting tons of energy), it smoothly ramps compressor speeds up or down to match room conditions, saving electricity without sacrificing cooling.

Over 15 days of around 6.5 hours of daily use, my electricity bill only increased by about ₹740,. Compared to traditional ACs it is substantially less. By using Heier’s ECO mode I could have saved further. Here are different modes that you can access from the Haier remote and App:

One of the standout qualities of the Haier Gravity Heavy Duty 1.6 Ton AC is just how quietly it operates. The indoor unit maintains impressively low noise levels, even at higher fan speeds, making it one of the best quiet air conditioners for bedrooms or home offices. During my testing, even with the fan ramped up, it never sounded like a jumbo cooler whirring in the background.

On the lowest fan setting, the indoor unit is virtually inaudible, humming along at around 24 dB. Even when pushed to higher modes, the sound levels stayed between 35–43 dB, well within a comfortable range. Even with the outdoor unit there were no intrusive rattles, no irritating buzz.

When it comes to maintenance, Haier has made life easier here as well. The unit features a Self-Clean Mode, which runs a 21-minute cleaning cycle that eliminates 99.9% of odour, dust, and bacteria. A hydrophilic coating on the fins further helps in quick removal of debris through the drainage pipe.

So far, only once I tried I ran the Self-Clean cycle once just to try it out as there was not much dust that gathered on the mesh filter. Regular cleaning of these mesh filters every 3 or 4 week is recommended for maintaining optimal airflow — and it’s worth it, considering it helps prevent the musty smells that plague older ACs.

Haier also includes a Super Micro Anti-Bacterial filter and uses anti-corrosive copper internals across the cooling system. The result isn’t just cooler air, but healthier, cleaner air — something that’s become increasingly important for Indian homes, especially in post-pandemic times.

That said, if you’re hoping for more advanced air filtration features like UVClean Pro technology (available in some of Haier’s older models) or PM2.5/PM0.1 filters — those aren’t present here. It’s a bit of a missed opportunity, given how important indoor air quality has become. Hopefully, we’ll see those features in future products.
