HMD Global has rebranded Nokia’s website and social handles, indicating that the company will soon enter the smartphone market. Although this will allow the Finnish company to sell its products, the development could pull the plug on Nokia smartphones.

Nokia’s official X (formerly known as Twitter) handle, @nokiamobile, is now @HMDglobal, indicating the change in the company’s direction. Further, the official Nokia website now redirects users to HMD’s website, another sign that the company wants to establish its brand instead of selling Nokia-branded smartphones.

The statement published on the official HDM Global website reads, “We’re still makers of Nokia smartphones.” However, the statement adds that the company is getting warmed up to bring users even more, including HMD’s original devices and phones from all-new partnerships.

For those catching up, HMD Global came into existence in 2016. It purchased the rights to Nokia smartphones from Microsoft. In 2017, the company launched Nokia 6. However, back in September 2023, the company’s CEO announced the plans to launch a new, “original HMD brand.”

Jean-Francois Baril, the CEO, mentioned that he wants to deliver high-quality, affordable mobile devices to consumers. Nonetheless, we don’t have a launch date yet.
