TL;DR

  • First and foremost, the Honda Activa is based on the ICE Activa, i.e., it uses the same body and frame.
  • Under the hood, the electric scooter features a wheel-side motor that produces an output of 4.2 kW (up to 6 kW).
  • Besides the Honda Electric, the company has also introduced the Honda QC1, which is a specced-down version of the electric scooter.

The Japanese automaker has officially released the new Activa Electric scooter, along with another model called the QC1. While the former is the electric interpretation of India’s most popular two-wheeler, Activa, the latter is a commuter model specifically designed for the Indian market. The electric Activa runs on two swappable batteries (providing more range), while the QC1 has a fixed battery (for shorter commutes).

Honda Activa Electric Specifications

Honda Activa Electric Scooter

First and foremost, the Honda Activa is based on the ICE Activa, i.e., it uses the same body and frame. This gives it a familiar look and feel, immediately identifiable with the Activa lineup. On the front, the vehicle features DRLs at the top, along with an LED headlamp below the number plate’s position. The LEDs are present on the back of the vehicle as well, giving it a sleek and slender look.

Under the hood, the electric scooter features a wheel-side motor that produces an output of 4.2 kW (up to 6 kW). Powering the motor are two Honda Mobile Power Pack e batteries that offer a cruising range of 102 km. While these are the rated numbers, the real-world range could be slightly less.

The motor can be optimized to facilitate three drive modes: Standard, Sport, and Econ. Honda’s electric Activa also offers a reverse mode for convenient parking. Additional features of the scooter include the Honda RoadSync Duo, which lets users connect their smartphone for navigation and calls (via Bluetooth).

Unlike other Honda vehicles, the sales of Activa Electric will take place in a phased manner. The first phase will include sales commencement in Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, and Mumbai (by spring of 2025). The reason behind a phased rollout is the availability of Honda’s e:Swap service, which allows users to swap Mobile Power Pack e(s) batteries on the go.

Honda QC1

Besides the Honda Electric, the company has also introduced the Honda QC1, which is a specced-down version of the electric scooter. This will be an India-specific model. In terms of design, the model doesn’t seem to include DRLs on the top, just the headlamp below the number plate screws. What we can see in the images is a slightly larger inner basket.

Under the hood, the QC1 is powered by a 1.5 kWh fixed high-density battery (made using long-cycle life battery cells) that is rated to provide a range of 80 kilometers on a single charge. The battery is mated to a 1.6 bhp motor (which can produce a maximum output of 2.4 bhp). Unlike the Activa Electric, the Activa QC1 features drum brakes.

As revealed by the company, the vehicle has a top speed of 50 kph and can achieve 0-40 kph in 9.7 seconds. The scooter features a five-inch LCD screen that shows the speed, trip information, and the battery level indicator. It also has a USB-C socket for charging smartphones. For those wondering about the price, Honda hasn’t revealed the cost of either model (yet).
