Apple introduced the Action Button for the first time with the iPhone 15 Series in 2023. Last year, Action Button was rolled out to iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max variants only. This time, Apple has expanded the Action Button capability across the entire iPhone 16 Series which includes four models- iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

What is the Action Button iPhone?
The Action Button on iPhones serves as a versatile, customizable feature that allows users to execute multiple functions with a single tap. This button can be used to launch the camera, toggle between Ring and Silent Modes, activate the flashlight, identify music through Shazam, facilitate translation, initiate Voice Memos, and function as a Magnifier. Additionally, it can assist users in locking or unlocking their vehicles. Positioned just above the volume controls, the Action Button replaces the traditional mute switch that has been a staple since the original iPhone.

How to Customize Action Button iPhone 16 Series

1. Go to ‘Settings’ on your iPhone.
2. Search for ‘Accessibility’ and scroll down to click on it.
3. Choose the ‘Action Button’ under the ‘Physical and Motor’ Menu. Then tap the ‘Action Button’.
4. Choose the Actions which you want the Action Button to perform. You will get an entire list of available functions. Pick the ones you want the button to do. Some options are-
- Accessibility Shortcuts– Access accessibility features like Assistive Touch or Voice Over.
- App shortcuts- launching particular app actions from the action button.
- Camera- to click photos or start a video recording.
- Flashlight- to turn the torch on or off.
- Mute- Toggle the mute switch.
- Zoom– Toggle for zoom on or off.
- VoiceOver– Toggle VoicOver on or off.
- Lock Screen– Locks your iPhone instantly.
- Focus- toggle on or off
- Voice Memo- Choose whether pressing the action button will start the voice memo recording or not.
- Magnify the entire screen using the action button
- Using color filters by action button.
You can select which actions you want the Action Button to perform.
